Re: Questions about the treatment

Post by Rice »

Helico_expert, it's now been two weeks since I ended the treatment and my stomach feels strange. During the first three days after the last pills, I ate normally and nothing happened, but on the 4th day I had reflux and the doctor told me to continue with Pantoprazol 40mg till I do the breath test in the end of November (for that I need to stop Pantoprazol two weeks before).

What I feel now is stomach discomfort, as if I could feel the organ itself 24/24h (any dish that has olive oil (fish) or butter (rice), makes it messy). The burping (and the bloating) also still present, some days more than others, even though it seems to be getting weaker. Lately I've also had intestinal colic (and noises), but I believe that this is due to started eating yogurts after months of avoiding it (I haven't eat it in two days and the colic stopped). As for the hunger, I haven't feel it.

Can this overuse of Pantoprazol (basically I've been taking it for one full month) be the reason for my actual stomach's state?

Thank you.

Your stomach is probably in recovering state.

Usually people got infected when they are very young. So for a very long time, your stomach is trying to adjust to the H. pylori free state. All the immune cells are slowly retreating.

Thank you Helico_expert. I really appreciate your help.

And how long should I wait between the end of the treatment and the breath test (my last pill was on October 18th)?

We usually ask patient to wait for a month after stopping all medication before the next breath test. So that would be around 18th of Nov.

So do you feel any improvement since you stopped the treatment on the 18th of Oct?

The main improvements are that I haven't felt the strong hunger pangs anymore and I'm also less tired these days. As for the treatment contraindications, they are all gone by now: the metallic taste, insomnia, etc. I've also been drinking a natural elixir since Tuesday and so far it is helping my stomach, as it seems to calm it down.

I've done a blood exam recently and my liver results are a little high, but it seems to be due to the treatment and cuz I'm still taking Pantoprazol every morning. However, yesterday I tried to have a free pills day and see how it would go; in the morning and afternoon it all went well, but by dinner time I felt reflux and had to take Pantoprazol.

So what it seems is that, since I ended the treatment, if I don't take Pantoprazol then reflux pops up. Still, I need to stop it for two weeks to do the breath test and so my doctor gave me a new pill to substitute it during this time, as it seems to have the same effect but no impact at the breath test. Now let's see how it goes.

Hi people,

I just wanted to give hope to those of you that are fighting this horrible bug, first, let me be brief , I got H pylori about 4 years ago, got the intense nausea, stomach pain, intense heartburn, intense acid reflux, all of them... I did go to the doc right away and go tested for the bug via endoscopy, to my surprise it was positive, and also was found with a moderate to severe gastritis... started the treatment 2 weeks after for a total duration of 3 weeks, I remember that during the treatment I felt a little better but not great. after I finished the treatment doc tested me for the bug was negative, I was stoked and happy... but unfortunately it does not end there... the following months the nausea, heartburn and intense reflux continued, I even got depressed... but like the experts say in this board, you have to be very patience, because things improve very gradually with lots of ups and downs, you just have to think positive that things will get better, I personally took PPI for over a year after treatment, and also zantac... my diet was ok, but avoided fried foods or heavy meals at night... but the good news is that after nearly 4 years I feel great!! I don't even take any PPI, just occasionally when I know I'll be eating junk I take a Zantac or when I get home from a party I take a couple of tums and that's it. the most important thing for me in this process was to understand that the recovery is NOT a straight line, it has ups and downs. you just have to be very patience. Good luck, please let me know if you have any questions. Pardon if there's any spelling or grammar mistakes. English is not my native language

I took them for about a year or so... but be patience, during that year there were months were I felt miserable, I thought that I had no chance, but things WILL GET BETTER, I can almost guarantee you that... I got my life back, I can enjoy pizza at night again, go out party, have drinks with no heartburn    I just take a zantac just to be safe. Not gonna lie you'll have minor heartburn from time to time, but very rare in my case.
