Early [some wierd] symptoms

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

Early [some wierd] symptoms

Post by mscigliano »

Hello,
Very nice forum and thank you to let me share this.
I was diagnosed the hp not more than 2 weeks ago (via a blood test).
In fact I commenced to have symptoms in late February this year following a
visit on board a ship (yes a ship) crowded with people, probably some of
them being sick ! I think it started less than a week after attending that
visit !
Strange enough, I was experiencing some sort of "pain-cycles" with the
cycle always starting with a burning stomach and one or two blisters
forming on my tongue - eventually leading to a kind of ulcer on the tip of
my tongue (in addition to an inflammated palate).
The cycles were about 1 week ! with little relief in between.
I have now started with the 10 days triple therapy: Pantoprazol 40mg (2 x
day), Amoxicillin 500mg (3 x day) with Metronidazol 500mg (3 x day).
As I'm writing I am half through this therapy, and must admit seeing
improvement despite I "feel the beast still alive" and trying to give me
pain in the stomach as well as trying to induce blisters on my tongue
(however, much less than what I have experienced prior to commencing the
cure).
What do you think ? Am I on the right track ? What do you think about the
symptoms ? What should I do when I have completed the 10 days therapy ?

Many thanks,
Marco

I dont think the mouth ulcer is related to H. pylori.

Nevertheless, you are doing the right thing. After you completed the treatment, wait for a month and go back to your doctor for another breath test. It is very important to find out if your H. pylori is eradicated.

Hello,
I may apologize as Im not conversant with some of the medical terminology. In fact when I say ulcer, I basically mean the tip of the tongue loosing its "typical velvet" ! and becoming red and burning.

This said many thanks for your note.

Yes exactly! You should wait for about a month to see the results. All the best!

Hi,
Thank you for the reply and as promised a quick feedback.
Tonight I'm done with my antibiotics/PPI therapy.
Must say that during the therapy I have had fantastic days. No pain in the stomach and a beautiful red tounge.
However just a couple of days ago - something I ate ?! I felt pain in my stomach again !!! my toungue turned wite !! and some kind of stomatitis/ sores on the tip of my tongue.
The GP told me to continue daily with 1 x somac 40mg.
What should I do ? Whne should I see the GP again ?

Mouth ulcers / oral thrush and other signs of candidiosis are side effects of antibiotics. Been there, done that. Antibiotics kill not only h.pylori but beneficial bacteria as well. So, candida and other bad guys in your gut thrive because there is no competition for them. Try probiotics, kefir, fresh sauerkraut. You can also take some antifungal medicines, but relief willl be short-lived, because this is a systemic problem and fixing it will take time. My candida symptoms started vanishing only after 4 month after finishing antibiotics. The same goes for stomach pain. For several months following eradication therapy stomach pain attacks still bothered me. To the extent I thought that therapy didn't work and h.pylori was still alive. But symptoms subside gradually, provided that h.pylori is really gone. I am in the fifth month after treatment and my condition I would call 80% of normality. Yet, it is getting better day by day. Thus, patience is my advice for you. And do re-check for h.pylori in one month. Good luck!

Thank you very much for the advise. I will post an update after testing then (and will be patience).
Just one more thing:
I have wife and kids, can I avoid infecting them ? Thinking of bathroom towels, sneezing, etc. Probably this would be of general interest.

It's not that easy to transmit H pylori. You can have your wife tested. There is more chance if her spreading H pylori because I assume she is the person in charge of food.

Don't worry about the children. Even if they r positive, it's hard to give them antibiotics.

Hello, I just wanted to give some [very positive] feedback basically one-year after my cure.
I can now state that I have recovered let's say 90% or more of my functions ;-)
This said it has been quite a journey, so don't give up !
3 months post my cure I developed what the doctor called a geographic tongue ! had to continue with anti-acids and still very sensitive to all sort of food. The latter was indeed very annoying as I was developing many blisters on the tip of my tongue.
I then decided to take a further check … and had a gastroscopy with an endoscope. The test confirmed no signs of the pylori … hurra'.
Decided then to stop with the anti-acids and kept on eating basically anything.
Now I have to say that my tongue looks much, much better and have no blisters.
So all of you:
Bite your tongue and keep on going. My life w/o this beast is much better and feel being not only a relief for the stomach but probably for the prevention of other diseases as I have had a start of a cancer in my intestine now 7 years ago.
Good blog, thank you ...

your feedback is very precious.
I am very glad to hear that you are back to 90% now. Hopefully it'll be 100% in near future. Keep up the good work. Eat healthy and stay positive.
