Which is the most suitable treatment for my gastritis?

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

Which is the most suitable treatment for my gastritis?

Post by inesines »

I am a 45-years-old female. I underwent a gastro-endoscopy. The biopsia of stomach and duodenum found mild chronic inflammatory interstitial infiltrate and edema (possibly due to aspirins and Fe suplemments?). I have no bacilli. Is Lansoprazol adequate for my condition? Or are H2 antagonists safer than PPIs? Or should I opt for Sulcrafate + clebopride? What would you recommend? Thanks for your attention. Regards, Ines

This type of mild gastritis can be the remnants of past Helicobacter. It gradually improves over several years but never completely resolves. Think of it like sun-damaged skin. There is no specific treatment so, H2 blockers, proton pump blockers and antacids are all OK. Actually, the symptoms are more likely to be from acid reflux in the oesophagus; so the treatment you are on is probably for that.
Note that because the stomach lining is a little bit abnormal, you are probably more susceptible to damaging agents like aspirin - so be wary of these.

Re: IBPs or Prostaglandins?

Post by inesines »

Thank you Doctor Barjammar for your reply and for this website.
If my gastritis is due to aspirins and iron supplements (my gastric symptoms appeared after taking them), which will be the best treatment: to decrease my chlorhydric acid or to add prostaglandins (misoprostol)?
In addition, having anemia attributed to menstrual issues/menopause, Is it a good idea to take Lansoprazol, which diminishes iron absorption?
Best regards, Ines, Buenos Aires
