Recovery time ?

Post by ajay100 »

Hello, so this my story....
i was diagnosed with H.pylori via breathe test in august and started 1 week treatment in september... waited 1 month after treatment to check if bacteria is gone via stool test but it was positive again... so second therapy was for 14 days and it was awful. so completed second treatment in november and stopped PPI then also... waited 4 weeks for a stool test to confirm it was negative. However, my symptoms still persist... i do not enjoy eating food anymore because i get nauseas right after! which in turn gives me anxiety when eating out with people as i could vomit or burst into the toilet anytime.... so it has completely ruined my social life! the burping and the gas is bad and constant now.. Ive been taken Mastic gum, probiotics, manuka honey, ginger, turmeric, aloe vera juice..... you name it! but the nausea and excess gas is still there. my question is... is this all part of the recovery? or is there another reason or possible explanation for this? it has been over 5 weeks since my last treatment.... should i be patient and give it a couple more weeks/months for recovery? I only had H.pylori with no ulcer... :( :( :( :( :(

Hi,

The stomach takes time to heal after an infection, while antibiotic are clearing ALL your good gut bacteria...basically you are reduce to almost like a "baby tummy". Which at that stage, only took milk.
That is just my illustration.

HEnce, you would need to take good care of your diet , put in some good probiotics on the digestive tracts ( btw, probiotics are mainly for the intestine, not stomach ).

I have taken the supplements you have taken.... at some point, it does more aggravation to me , than...relieve me...
So, I started reducing them, and started "clean", with just probiotics.

The idea for me is...take easy digestive food...chew the food longer, ...do some exercise...to get yourself out from the anxiety...( and I had ALOT, and still DO )....and keep a good diet plan.

Slowly but surely I believe you would recover.
Perhaps account to the food places you previously had, to avoid getting re-infected. All the best.

Thank you so much for this! a good way of reassuring me... I'm trying to keep positive and will invest in a good probiotic. any recommendations on which ones to pick up?
thanks

Hi,

I also had HP. It can take some time before you are healed. It depends on the damage done by HP i think. How long did you had symptoms? Do you know? My HP infection was for about 5 months because of bad diagnosis by my GP. I was very depressed and tired during the infection and also after treatment.

Today it's more than a year ago that i had my 7 days treatment. Did a check-up a month after and it was negative. I'm feeling much better but still can't eat everything i want. Hope you will recover soon.

Ps.

Probiotics can help. I also tried a lot of things like manuka honey, vitamins, glutamine etc. Hoping it would magically help me get better in a week or so:) But that won't do the trick. Good diet, patience and positive attitude does is my experience.

i have had symptoms for years prior to the treatment... i just thought it was hormonal activity or anxiety that caused it... but last summer i decided to do every sort of check up and thats when H-pylori came up... my symptoms before consisted of sharp indigestion pains as soon as i finish eating, execess gas, felt sick after breakfast always needed fresh air, random weight loss... following treatment.. my new symptoms are the same as before, followed by bloating, spasms, abdominal pain sometimes..:(

what are your symptoms now? and what symptoms did you have before thats gone as a result of the healing process...! I'm scheduled for an endoscopy next week, already tested negative once .. so hopefully endoscopy shows something (not cancer) so i can atleast be at peace and try and resolve it... tired of feeling like this.
I don't enjoy food anymore and as much i would like to say i am grateful... I'm finding it difficult to enjoy life right about now. But hey such is life.

I also recommend probiotics - but try actual supplements, not some probiotic yogurt. They should be able to advise you in a drug store.

Avoid sugars as much as possible (table sugar, fruits, fruit juices, soda, honey, milk, sweets). Also avoid foods high in soluble fiber (barley, oats, rye, legumes).

For me it has been a long healing process. I had my treatment back in July and it has been a very slow process. I am still not able to eat any citrus, spicy, uncooked onions, garlic or drink regular coffee or alchohol. Even a decaffeinated coffee will start the feeling again. If I choose to have a decaffeinated coffee then I have to be very careful with anything I eat for days. It is frustrating and has put quite a damper on my social life. I have even had to stop my yoga classes because I can't comfortably lay flat for longer than a minute. I take probiotics every day, sleep on a wedge pillow, etc. These seem to help and I do feel that there is improvement but it is considerably slower than I imagined. I long for my previous life.

yea, some people does take longer than normal to "recover". Most importantly is to make sure you are definitely free of H. pylori. Otherwise you are just waiting for nothing.
