so what is found in the colonoscopy?
H. pylori is normally staying in the stomach only. But there are some helicobacter species that can be found in the lower guts.

Re: The damn bacteria gets it
does this mean I could have this thing for months before it goes?, the doctor said its a very hard thing to get rid of, despite week course of 3 antibiotics, but its been a bout 2wks and the symptoms are returning, so I guess I will be going back to doctors again. This is such a nuisance, I am actually afraid of what I eat when I go out now, incase of cramping and emergency needing the toilet. Its really bad. I dont get pain all the time, but its like IBS symptoms it comes on at certain times.Helico_expert wrote:so what is found in the colonoscopy?

How many courses of meds will it take to get rid this thing?

Are you sure you dont actually have IBS? Your symptoms to me would suggest it.

The gp did some tests for IBS and the heli thingy? the heli thingy came up positive. As far as I know I dont have IBS. But have not had any internal tests so far. As was only diagnosed about a month ago. I guess this is the start of something or ending of it.

Helico_expert,
So how to get diagnosed if someone can have it in the lower guts? A stool test? Because breath test may not be useful in this case, right?
And what will be the symptoms for people who have it in the lower gut?
Will the treatments work even if the bacteria is in the lower gut?
Do you guys have any research paper or any findings, regarding "finding those species in the lower gut?"
Please answer, this is kind of interesting.

Re: The damn bacteria gets it
Normally Helicobacter in the lower guts, also known as enterohepatic Helicobacter, dont cause any trouble. Only patients with very weak immune systems occasionally reported with such infection. Otherwise, it's presence is basically unknown.
Nevertheless, this is the first article describe the first Helicobacter cinaedi ever discovered in human (quite an interesting story).

This is another article detecting the same species among other patients.
