Helico_Expert, I cannot see the relation between your answer and what I had asked. I had asked about the "reflux" not thrush. Question is does HP create low acid or high acid? Also, I have recently had a stool test and tested negative but I was still having some Gastritis like symptoms. I have found that taking a tea spoon of L-GLUTAMINE before meals definitely helps and heals the post-HP pain (burning) in the stomach.

I am so sorry about that. Anyway, watch this interesting youtube link, BBC documenting Barry Marshall's discovery. Fast forward to time 24:50. It mentioned about the acid increase in H. pylori infected patients.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKEARdGGEqA

If you are truly H. pylori negative, then you'll just have to wait for your stomach to recover. Some members in this forum mentioned that it took them 6 months to go back to normal.

In addition, some patients complain about the acid reflux after H. pylori eradication therapy. Unfortunately, such mechanism is not fully understood yet.

Helico_expert, Thank you for this VERY interesting youtube video! In my view anyone who has repetitive gastro issues, ( as well as so called "doctors" like mine who still believe that people can live with HP hence there should be no need to eradicate HP if the first antibiotic treatment failed) must watch this video and learn! If I learnt one thing from my journey was that HP must be eradicated at all cost Therefore, if one antibiotic treatment fails, one must try different antibiotics until HP is completely eradicated. Also, anyone who is actively promoting (so called) "all natural", "alternative", "HP treatment" therapies (such as herbal tea, etc) without any scientific proof that such therapies indeed can eradicate HP, is completely irresponsible and they are playing with human life to gain profit. I will have a second stool test after 6 months to ensure that I am definitely HP free! I will always be grateful to scientist like yours and to Dr Marshall & all. Thank you.

Helico_expert, I would like to add one more thing please... I feel that the biggest and most damaging statement about HP that has been made on that video is : " Most people catch HP when they were young" . Because this statement creates an impression that "it may be okay to live with HP", "it is possible to live with HP for many years without much complications" . I believe such statements prevent patients to receive proper and urgent treatment to eradicate HP. If I give an example from my own experience with HP, this was indeed the very argument that my doctor has used. He said to me: "well don't worry, you probably caught your HP when you were very young, bearing mind that for the past 40 + years you did not have any issues you can live with it by using Zantac ". I said I believed that I had caught HP after a food poisoning a few months ago but he (and his so called "HP specialist Prof Dr....) totally ignored me. As a result, I could not get a proper treatment over two years where I ended up having a chronic gastritis. I then began educating myself and "demanded" a treatment where I finally tested HP negative. Therefore, I would like to know if there is any scientific research (statistical analysis) done to determine that most patients catch HP when they were young?

There are many scientific articles out there that suggest human carry H. pylori since childhood. Here I show one publication of a 5 years follow up study, tracking infected mother transmitting H. pylori to children.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article ... 700-04.pdf

However, the source of H. pylori among adult would probably be from infected partners, work colleagues, domestic animals, and working environment where food or water is contaminated.

It is kind of true that many infected people are asymptomatic and hence believed that they could be a normal flora in our body, like E. coli in the guts or staphylococcus on our skin.

There are also evidences suggesting that H. pylori may be beneficial to children where infected children are less likely to develop asthma and other allergies.

Helico_expert, thank you for the links, they are rather interesting:

The first study suggests that mother to child HP transmission is possible. But sadly, it does not tells what complications the children had as a result of HP infection during the five years of study. Therefore it somewhat gives an impression that it is possible to be infected with HP during childhood without complications. This was exactly I wanted to say.

The second study suggests that HP may be helpful for asthma and allergies. I am not sure what to make of this because my earliest symptoms of my HP infection was severe “Urticaria”. I was breaking hives the size of a walnut. My lips would balloon every morning I got up, my tongue would be swollen, almost closing my air ways. My thighs, stomach, groin area, face and arms were itching for hours and breaking hives after every meal. I was afraid to eat anything. This became so severe that even if I drank water without eating anything I began itching.

But interestingly, despite I have recently tested HP negative, the itching continues, however it is now only on the bikini line, yet all skin tests returned normal (no Candida, no yeast, no mould, no Leaky Gut, no STD of any sort). Also, it is not “Contact Dermatitis” (for instance: rubber allergy due to skin contacting with rubber edge of the underpants ). Therefore it is baffling. No cortisol cream such as Cannesten helps. The symptoms seems to be a kind of food allergy, itching seems to be aggravated with certain foods (sugary and rich in carbs) and mostly in the evening and at nights. I tried to get some food allergy tests (home kits). It was every expensive and the test results was a joke really. I would like to try allergy tests but I feel that there is no serious test available on the market (is there any?) and my doctor is no help as usual. My guess is that HP somewhat damaged my liver, gal-bladder and gastrointestinal balance hence I am having all these issues now and it seems never ending. :( I appreciate your suggestions. Thank you,

it's difficult to know what symptoms children have because they dont know how to communicate. However, most children seem to get use to it and forget about it until adulthood.

H. pylori is only known to cause trouble in the stomach. So far, there hasnt been much evidence that it is associated with other problems in other body parts.

allergy is difficult and is not my area of expertise. Sometimes people grows out of it. Sometimes people developed overnight. it's too unpredictable.

It has been almost two years that I have been HP negative. After I was tested negative, my symptoms continued. This was because the lining of my stomach had been damaged when I had HP, it needed healing. As usual my GP was useless! I decided to investigate further. I first cut myself off from all wheat products (pasta, bread). I began eating rice but did not work so I stopped eating rice, beans and potatoes. I began eating GLUTEN FREE bread etc. I then increased the protein content of my meals. Within weeks I felt better. But noticed that I still had issues with fruits (any kind, but worse with citrus fruits), I stopped eating them. No cakes, no alcohol, no fizzy drinks, no dairy..

Omelet and gluten free bread for breakfast, any kind of fish/prawn with salad at lunch, meat and green vegetables in the evening. I shallow fried them, poached them etc I did not have low fat but did not go crazy with fat either. I occasionally (once every two weeks) had rice or potato in small quantities. I made my sauces myself and used a lot of herbs. I took good quality multivitamin + time released Omega 3+ time released C vitamin every day.

The result: my stomach is completely healed! No more burning sensation, pain, flatulence, re-flux etc.. The best thing was that I did not take any medicine. Recently I re-introduced the foods that I could not have before to my meal plan. I now can have a small glass of wine once a week, citrus fruits (in fact as I write this I am drinking a lemonade made with stavia - not with commercial sugar).

I lost 5 kg by simply following this diet. I have more energy and most importantly I feel that my stomach is completely cured! No more Gastritis and IBS pain!

For the people who suffer from HP I can say that:

- You should first eradicate HP from their system by antibiotic treatment (I am in favor of natural therapies there is absolutely no natural remedy/therapy that I did not try when I had HP. Some of them eased the symptoms but never killed HP. At the end antibiotics treated me).
- Put your self in to Gluten Free, Dairy Free, high protein, moderate fat, high veg (not much fruit) diet for a few months.
- Cut out alcohol, fizzy drinks and and fruit juices, Instead drink plenty of water.
- Began exercising (slow to moderate)
After the symptoms completely disappeared you re-introduce some of the food (such as fruits etc) in to your diet.

Best wishes to you all...
