H Pylori and perforated ulcers

Ulcers of the duodenum and stomach are called peptic ulcers. H.pylori causes most ulcers; other causes are aspirin and arthritis type drugs (NSAIDS). Ulcers can also be in the oesophagus but these are not caused by H.pylori.

H Pylori and perforated ulcers

Post by jrissone »

In the event of a perforated ulcer, is it possible for the H Pylori bacteria to make its way through the perforation and into the blood stream or elsewhere? What about for any naturally occurring flora that resides in the stomach or gut such as Klebsiella? If so, what would be the symptoms of something like that?

Also, is it possible for stomach acid to make its way through the perforation and irritate any joints in the surrounding area?

when bacteria get into the blood stream, it becomes bacteriaemia and can give all sorts of complications.

It is extremely rare to see H. pylori bacteriaemia. According to this paper
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article ... ool=pubmed

They described the bacteriaemia that was cause by H. pylori.

also, this wiki site explains about stomach perforation

This is a very broad topic. Is there anything particular that you want to know?
