Helicobacter symtomps reverse after treatment

Post by Paulicapopcorn »

Hello
I will keep it short and simple

I went to the ER after some nasty stomach pain with gnawing, pain, heartburn even heart palpitations and lack of appetite, nausea.

I was diagnosed with gastritis and told that it’s due to my lifestyle.I couldn’t believe that’s true so I went and did a breath test (while on PPI ) and it came back positive for Helicobacter pylori.

Long story short medics in my country are very bad and very misinformed so my private medic gave me the following treatment :

Amoxicillin 2 g / day
Claritomichin 1 g / day
For 7 days

During my treatment I started to feel good stomach wise (did have some side effects of antibiotics) but by the end all my nausea and pain went away and everything I could even sleep on my belly and not have any problem

I started to research a lot on the internet and found out that some studies claim that 7 days vs 14 days is virtually the Same but I found a study done in my country which had 40 vs 80 percent eradication rate for the said periods and I started to get worried about it being too short.

After the 7 days I was done with antibiotics and after finishing them I started to feel worse and the stomach pain slowly started to crawl back. Honestly I got scared and decided to do another 10 day treatment with 2 different antibiotics even before I get tested.

They issue is that I have a 2 day gap between my treatments which I hope won’t affect the potential of the second one

I can’t explain it .... why did my stomach heal during antibiotics and reverse that heal after I was done ?

I know I should get tested but honestly I can’t do it, I can’t stay one month like this I’m a student and university stated and I need to be at 100% it has already affected me a lot

Any advice ?

Thanks

Hi,
Now I am no specialist and ended up asking my doctor what to give me to try eradication as I could not take standard therapy as you did due to adverse events and the second dual therapy I could not take due to other medication I am on.

So...

I did some digging and found that 2g amoxicillin for 14 days was effective BUT from doing further research it depends on what your location is in the world and what strain of Helico you have.I had nothing to lose and gave it a shot.Apart from making my tongue black I tolerated it well.

I did it with the 14 day above treatment and it sorted me out.

Thing is though...you have to re test and the best way of doing so that is very accurate is with an easily available stool antigen kit.(I got mine off ebay of all places) see my post anyway for my story and be aware that the Antibiotics can mess up your tummy for a few weeks after treatment. You also need to test 1 WHOLE month after taking antibiotics and with NO PPI for a month either, for a dead accurate test.

it is scary stuff, you have my total sympathy.

High dose PPI can also cause a whole host of problems on its own!.

Hope this helps...

Regards,Dean UK

without finding out if you have H. pylori, we dont know if your problem is caused by H. pylori. Now that you have started the antibiotics, we just have to assume it is and probably other pathogen. Do finish your antibiotics to prevent resistant strains.

good luck to your treatment.

Hello everyone thanks for your replies

After I finished my second treatment my medic recommended an endoscopy.

All said and done I had an endoscopy done to me after about 1 week of finishing antibiotics and the tissue test came back negative

Now I would like to ask the following questions :
How long does it take / did it take for your case to properly heal up?

It's been approx 2 weeks since endoscopy and I had some days that were amazing and had no problem what's so ever. My worst part of the day is the mornings when I wake up I have a slight nausea (this is thanks to bile reflux I've been told)

The medic recommended I take emanera for another 30 days (40 mg x day) and motilium (10 mg x 3 per day)

However I've been reluctant to take motilium because it's used to treat nausea and haven't had any problem until earlier this week
Earlier this week I had an important exam and took one to make sure I'll be fine with the nervousness.
However it causes some horrible side effect (low blood pressure, headache and burning face). Also they recommend taking it for less than 7 days cause it can cause some serious hearth arythmia problems .

After the exam the next morning I feel quite badly with some pain that although it wasn't anywhere close to bad I haven't had it in 2 weeks. My presumption is that motilium also does no good to my stomach.

Also one thing I'm not sure about:
The doctor said the ppis don't affect endoscopy h pylori results since it takes actual tissue of the stomach. Is it true ?

Thanks

PPI can reduce acid in the stomach and lower H. pylori load.
So, if your doctor did a CLOtest to check for H. pylori, it may give a false negative.
If your doctor did a biopsy and ask for specific immuno stain on the histology, it may also give a false negative.

If your doctor doesnt care the presence or absence of H. pylori, just want to know the inflammation level, then it's ok. You can sometimes predict the presence or absence of H. pylori by looking at the inflammation level.

Quick update:
Its been 1 month since endoscopy and my overall health has gone up tenfold
Majority of the nausea is gone and I have very little localized pain in the stern. I finally had some mornings when I woke up with no nausea (usually I’d wake up with annoying nausea and acid reflux in the morning and this has been a thing even before my outbreak 2 months ago, which I should have taken as a bad sign)
My doctor gave me ppi s for 1 month (when I did endoscopy) which I almost finished
My question right now is:
How important are ppis during healing ? Cause I feel like I might need 2-4 weeks to get fully back on my feet and if it’s radically needed I will ask for any extension but also I read that ppis for prolonged periods of time can affect absorption of various vitamins and minerals which I might have to pay attention to.

Also my doctor prescribed me motillium 3x day(he said I had a lot of bile fluid in my stomach at the endoscopy) but I took it for couple of days and after having some side effects I chose not to take it because I felt I didn’t need it.
Is motilium needed that much to recover from h pylori ?

If H. pylori is gone, then your stomach will gradually recover.

PPI is very safe. You can take as long as you like. But, remember to stop gradually. For example, you can switch from taking 2 tablets to 1 tablet a day or 1 tablet every two days.

Long term PPI usually means months and months or even years of PPI. So you dont have to worry about it now.

motillium is a drug that help food pass your stomach. That can reduce the time the food stay in your stomach, which can cause bloating and pain.

Finally, I am glad that you are feeling a lot better than before. But I have to remind you to get a follow up test done to make sure you are truly free of H. pylori.

Thanks for your words!
I have done a RUT (biopsy test) when I had my endoscopy done which came back negative.
Although every week is slighly better every now and then I get a series of:
Headaches
Mind fog
Dizziness
"unreal feeling"
Sometimes running nose but never sore throat
Fatigue and weak feeling
Also light seems to bother me more in these periods

I have 2 explanations for this:
I might catch some kind of flu that goes away in about 3-4 days
I have some sort of vitamins or iron / folic acid deficiency granted I've been of ppis for almost 2 1/2 months (doctor said that some vitamins need stronger acid to be extracted ) and I do live with my parents so I eat pretty diverse food but I don't take supplements except for garlic extract some ca+mg+zn but no vitamins

Do you have any clue what could cause these feelings ?

Is it normal to have bile problems after h pylori ? I feel like my bile is not syncing up to my digestion (more like gerd)
Merry Christmas y'all!
