Need advice on hpylori

Post by ramya »

Hi, My Doctor has prescribed hpylori stool antigen test for my kid. However, he hasn't mentioned what medications to be off prior to the test. This is the first time we are going for this test. I have seen in different forums that PPIs and antibiotics to be off for certain days before the test.
His medical history since january is -
He was on antibiotics for five days in January first week (from Jan 4th - Jan 10th) for loose motions and cough symptoms (Azithromycine and Monocef has given to him).
Three weeks back he has taken metrodinazole syrup for two doses for loose motions.
No PPI s are taken from last three weeks.
Should we need to wait for some more days ? We can go ahead with stool test? pls let me know. Thank you.

3 weeks is enough. You can proceed with stool test. How old is your kid? Is he having stomach problem? We don’t recommend giving children strong antibiotic treatment. Therefore we normally don’t test children.

He is five years old. My son is having weird symptoms since last year. He has been feeling nausea, vomiting (especially after breakfast) , abdominal belly pain (on and off , but lasts only for few seconds) since last june. Also, weight loss is happening and dark circles are going in parallel. I took him to gastro doctor and he has done endoscopy and told me that GERD and He has not performed biopsy test and prescribed Esmeprazole sachets. That medicine is working good but it is giving temporary relief. My son was also having loose motions sometimes . When i took him to doctors during loose motions time, they were prescribing antibiotics. Surprisingly, After antibiotic treatment, he was feeling better for two months and gaining good weight. In these two months, Though he is complaining about vomiting sensation in the morning and belly pain (sometimes) . but it seems negligible. I mean, since weight gain and growth are good during that time.
Again after two months, same problem has been continuing. Nausea, abdominal pain slowly started, dark circles and weight loss etc. Deworming is also done to my kid last year. I took him to same gastro again, i have tried to explain the problem. But he is not even listening to child problem clearly. He was saying that school going kids will loose weight sometimes and then gain. I was completely frustrated with his treatment because there is no much improvement with that medication.

What i have observed is that, he is feeling better only when antibiotics were given. So i went to another gastro and discussed my son's health problem and he has written stool antigen test for hpylori and Barium swallow test.

I am planning for these tests this weekend.

i personally think that 5 years old is a bit too young for HP treatment. There is a group of scientist that believes HP may actually be beneficial to Child's immune system development. The antibiotics are disturbing the good bacteria growing in the guts. Have you consider some natural remedy or probiotics to help your son's symptom?

Children almost never develop stomach ulcers or cancer. So I think getting rid of HP may not be the priority. Nevertheless, you need to listen to your local specialist who can examine your son physically. if your son is indeed suffering from malnutrition, then I would agree to get rid of HP.

Ok.

I was initially not worried about nausea and abdominal pain problems. But i was actually concerned about his weight growth. I tried giving clean food, smaller meals, curd rice (3 times daily), fruits and vegetables. Though symptoms are relieved so much, i was worried about his growth.

I will get his test done as per doctor prescription. If it Hpylori test is positive, i will discuss with my doctor about treatment options and plan accordingly. My previous gastro doctor has always prescribed esmeprzole, antacid etc.

I do not know much about natural remedies for hpylori. Please let me know. Please provide probiotic information as well.

Thank you so much.

unfortunately HP can only be killed by antibiotics (not 1, but a combination of 2 or 3).

i suggested natural remedies or probiotics to help build up guts flora. Perhaps your son, due to previous antibiotic treatment, has poor guts flora.
