How to Avoid being Reinfected?

Post by photon »

H pylori prevalence is pretty high in my country. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to prevent reinfection other than body contact with utensils, food, etc.

Can h pylori survive in the water? In animals too? Is it bad to eat fresh eggs?

Any ideas or tips?

Tip 1. H. pylori is spread by long term exposure with a carrier. So as long as everyone under the same roof is free of H. pylori, the chance of reinfection is actually low.

Tip 2. Personal hygiene not only will prevent H. pylori reinfection. It can prevent many diseases. So, keep your oral cavity clean and always wash your hands after toilet.

H. pylori survive poorly outside human body.

It doesnt survive very long in water.

Helicobacter is host specific. H. pylori only infect human. That's why Prof Marshall had to drink the bacteria culture to proof to the world that it is the culprit that causes gastritis.
However, animal has their own Helicobacter species. given enough exposure, it may jump host. Just like many flu viruses that comes from wild animal.

H. pylori does not present in eggs. But you may want to prevent raw egg to avoid salmonella.
