Is this a normal recovery for H Pylori?

Post by uzham »

I was diagnosed and treated for H. Pylori about 2 months ago. The breath test has since revealed that my H. Pylori has been eradicated. However, I still feel sick. My primary symptoms are bloating, gas, and irregular and incomplete bowel movements (which make the other two symptoms worse). The positive thing is that I don't get any heartburn anymore.

So are these symptoms a part of my recovery? Or is this something I should get additional help for? My GI has been very dismissive. But I would like to be reassured that this is something I should expect as I recover.

Thanks so much!

if you read through this forum, you'll find some members took months or years to recover back to normal. However, I think it's good that you know you are free of H. pylori now. At least you know it will slowly recover. Meanwhile, you may want to try some probiotics or mint tea to slowly calm your stomach.

Helico_expert: I have scanned the forum and it seems that most people face acid reflux type issues during their recovery. I want to know if it is common to have bloating, gas, and some irregular bowel movements during recovery? Thanks.

during recovery, you may experience all sort of gastric discomfort. what you are experiencing is probably due to the imbalance of guts flora. if the BM is too frequent or severe (eg. blood), you'll need to see doctor to examine if you got C. diff infection. Otherwise, try probiotics or mint tea to balance the guts flora.

There is no specific guide how to improve bowel movement. Perhaps you can try some probiotics to see if that will help your recovery.

Thanks so much for your time, Helico_expert. Are there any empirical studies on which probiotics actually work? It seems there are so many out there to choose from.

Yup, there are so many out there, it's really hard to tell which one actually work. Since there is no harm trying, you'll just have to try a few trust worthy brands.
