Burping

Post by Oddi »

I got rid of helicobacter after two tripple therapies, each for one week and a quadruple therapy for two weeks. Finished last therapy almost five months ago. I am currently on 30mg Lanzaprozol and also taking Gaviscon quite often. Acid feeling in mouth and endless burping, mild burning midway between the naval and bottom of sturnum. I am 53, so it may well be I have had helicobacter for a very long time. Does anyone have any idea as to when the symptoms will go?

It might take some time for your stomach to recover. It is impossible to know how long though. Everyone is different. But have you done a follow up breath test after your last treatment? You need to make sure that Helicobacter has been eradicated properly.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I had a follow-up breath test, and it was negative.

unfortunately it's something we have very little understanding. Some patients do experienced burping or reflux after getting rid of H. pylori. That's why some scientist hypothesize that H. pylori actually prevent reflux! I dont know how long it will take for your burping to stop. But I have heard cases where the burping finally stopped. So I hope you will recover soon.

Thanks again for your reply, I had burping before the treatment, so its been going on for a year now. Doctor has just referred me to have an endoscopy down the mouth. I am in the UK and being treated on the NHS, so will probably be waiting a few months.

Not too sure what to advise when there is no H. pylori. Do update us with your treatment outcome.

There was a six month waiting list for a gastroscopy, so I went to Krakow, Poland, in Feb 15 where I had one for a mere £54. The doctor discovered ulcers on oesophagus, where it joins the stomach. He did a biopsy and confirmed that the helicobacter had gone. He thought it was "terrible," that I had been given so many antibiotics in the UK, without first finding out whether or not I had stomach ulcers. Apparently, in Poland, they do not normally treat for HB unless you have stomach ulcers, because the antibiotics can cause the type of ulcers I had. (Los Angeles type.)

Anyway, I was told to go on a dose of 60mg Omeprazole for two weeks (if I remember correctly). Then I continued on 30mg, and gradually reduced. Went back to Poland in October 15, and had another gastroscopy to check if the ulcers had gone, and they had. Also no Baretts. After I returned, I had my appointment with the NHS consultant to decide whether or not I was going to have a gastroscopy, but he was satisfied with the one I had in Poland, so that was the end of that.

Still burping and farting a little, stomach feels like it is "pulling." On 30mg Omeprazole, even now in July 16. Bread, milk really bring it on.

Incidentally, in Poland I had a gastroscopy done with a very thin fibre optic which went up my nose and all the way around. I hardly felt anything. Really good.

In fact, I was so impressed with the endoscopy clinic in Poland, that I would like to recommend it, if I am permitted. Here is the link. www.endoskopia.net.pl You can click on the British/American flag for the English version of their site.
