Who are experts on HPylori in USA - California etc?

Post by ResistantHelioUSA »

I am wondering if there are any specialists or key research doctors working on HPylori in USA? Particularly here on the west coast in California.

My regular doctor has been treating me for HPylori but it has returned 3 times in 4 years. I am thinking I could have a very antibiotic resistant strain and that it could be the same original infection, but just grows back slowly. Want to get to bottom of it fast and want them to actually do a endoscopy and take a sample to see which of the 21 strains it could be.

Just finished 4 weeks of quadruple therapy with Clarithromycin, then 3 weeks with Metronidazole instead. Metro seemed to have more effect. Now in the post antibiotic, brown tongue time. Stomach better, nausea gone, but need to be certain it is eradicated this time and not confident I can get this solved by general practicioner.

Is there a field in gastroenterlogy that deals with hpylori all the time? Any direction you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am sorry I cannot recommend anybody in US. Nevertheless, you should find a gastroenterologist who has access to laboratory for antibiotic sensitivity testing.

now that you have just completed your quadruple treatment, i would suggest you to wait a few weeks, no antibiotics, no PPI, and repeat a breath/stool test to find out if your infection is cleared.

Perhaps, you can get everyone who lives under the same roof for a check as well.
