RE diognosis

Post by Nat »

Hi Everyone

I am so happy to find this forum. I didn't think there was anything like this around .
12 Years ago I got pregnant with my now 11 year old son. During my pregnancy I found out after some very painful episodes (OH btw..after three doctors!!) I was tested for H pylori and found I had it.
Had the anti biotics. I can't remember now if I was ever retested .. but to cut a long story short.
Suffered with sensative stomach ..digestive problems bloatedness ever since I had my son. Retested last week.. doctor rang me today to say I have H Pylori still ( OH btw..that was AFTER I mentioned to her ..to please test me for it)
so now I am going to pick up my three medicines tomorrow from the chemist.
It kinda knocked me for six to be honest.. and all this time I would say I probably still had H pylori...
To make matters worse I was 8 when my grandmother died of stomach cancer and it's ALWAYS been in my mind about it.. so the H pylori doesnt help.
How much damage do you think over the years it has caused my poor poor stomach?
Any advice or experience would be appreciated. #

Thanks :)

Sorry to hear about your story. We do recommend to ALL our patients to do a follow up breath test 3 weeks after completing the treatment. Please make sure the treatment you are taking now is different from the one you took 12 years ago. I'm pretty confident the same treatment wouldn't work either. The dammage depends on the host, bacteria, environment... it is difficult to say. But if you want to make sure, you should have an endoscopy. It is a simple procedure. It will probably show some gastritis. Once you have eradicated the bacteria, everything will get back to normal in a few months anyway.

Hello again

I was reading an old post regarding someone getting their husband tested for H Pylori but the doctor said not to unless they were having symptoms.
As I was first diagnosed and treated 11-12 years ago for H pylori maybe my husband passed it back to me again (or it never went in the first place, who knows).
I don't fancy going through all the treatments again ... getting H pylori again.., REPEAT, if it can be avoided.
The problem I'll probably have is the doctor won't test him if I ask... I'm in England and its hard enough getting a test done for yourself!
Also I spoke to the doctor today over the telephone and I asked if I should book an appointment to have a test after treatment to see if the H pylori had gone.
Apparently, they don't do retest after treatment 0_0 . Is this how it is everywhere or just in England??

About your husband, it is very unlikely to contaminate each other. Here in Australia, we would just make him do the test. Easy, fast and that way you wouldn't have to worry about it. I am surprised they won't let you do the test after treatment. I don't know how it is everywhere else, I just know that many doctors think it is not necessary. But if you ask for it... Anyway, try to convince them. Tell them that this is recommended by Prof. Barry Marshall's Lab in Australia. Maybe talk to a specialist. They are usually more aware about this bacteria. Here, all our patients are treated until the breath test comes back negative. That way we don't have people like you coming back 12 years later...
