Treatment for Pregnant Women

Hello doctor,

I am currently 22 weeks in my first pregnancy. I have been diagnosed with H. pylori bacteria today. As far as my symptoms are concerned, I had severe abdominal pain for 3-4 days followed by diarrehea (loose motions) for 1 days. They did my blood work and discovered traces of the bacteria. They are not sure if its due to earlier infection or its a new one causing my stomach pain and diarrehea.

So I have been given Amoxicillin (500 mg - 2 tabs twice a day) and Clarithromycin (Biaxin - 500 mg - 2 tabs twice a day). Its a 14 day course. My doctor says although Clarithromycin is US-FDA category C, it is safe for me to take it. My question is -
1. Is this dosage good enough or more? I know I should trust the doctor, but taking 4 * 500 mg tablets is little worrisome for me considering my little one inside :-(
2. Is this the right combination for someone like me who is 22 weeks along?

I am also taking Prevacid 15 mg daily since my first trimester, so a breath test was out of question for me to confirm the bacteria.

Any response is really appreciated. I just need some confirmation / second opinion on my treatment plan. Thanking you in Advance.

It's a bit late to reply now but the treatment you were given seems excellent. You were also taking the acid blocker as welol I hope (the "PPI"). Have a breath test after treatment but there is no hurry for that if you feel better. 8-)

Many of my patients notice that their skin changes during pregnancy. When your hormones are surging, it’s no wonder that many women need to alter their skin care and makeup routines to adapt to the changes in their skin. Here are some common pregnancy-related skin problems, and how to deal with them:

• Redness and flushing: One of the first things that happens during pregnancy is that your body starts producing more blood to support your growing baby. By the end of your pregnancy, your heart is pumping nearly 50 percent more blood than your normal circulation. This increased blood flow to the skin explains why many women notice that their face feels flushed. In some women it can look like an attractive “glow,” but those with rosacea may notice that their flushing and breakouts get worse as the weeks go by. If this is the case, stay cool to minimize redness. When it’s sweltering outside, stay indoors and turn up the fan or air conditioning. Skip the hot coffee and soup, and instead drink cool beverages. Mist your face with mineral water, and carry a small travel fan, especially if you live in a hot, humid climate. If your breakouts persist, ask your doctor if Finacea would be right for you. This is a prescription-strength rosacea gel made from azelaic acid, a naturally-occurring substance found in wheat. To counteract redness, use pressed or loose powder in a slightly more golden/yellow tone than you’d normally use. Skip the heavy foundation, which will make your face feel hot, and definitely don’t use green makeup; you’ll end up looking like Shrek. Try Prescriptives Magic Liquid Powder Red Neutralizer . It cools your skin on contact and will help you look less flushed.

Hope this helps you !

H. pylori bacteria is one of the health problems of a pregnant. It can cause also heartburn, dyspepsia and ulcers in the stomach. Beware that Zinlori is not recommended fro you as a pregnant.
