Completed 14 days treatment for H.Pylori but still have all symptoms

The cure of Hp usually requires antibiotics. Other things have been tried and have a weaker effect.

Completed 14 days treatment for H.Pylori but still have all symptoms

Post by kishore24 »

Hi, I suffer from incomplete bowel movements and discomfort in left abdomen and left chest tightness and shortness of breath for 3 years and doctor advised me to take colonoscopy and endoscopy test and took sample tissue from stomach only not colon cause I was told that your colon looks good, so no need to take tissue sample from colon for biopsy and the result is anal fissure and h pylori positive.Below results are

Chronic Gastritis
Activity - Mild
Chronic Inflammation - Mild
H.Pylori - Detected
Atrophy - Absent
Dysplasia - Absent
Intestinal Metaplasia - Absent

and I have vitamin d and vitamin B12 diffiency
And I also gained 10kgs over a year
Doctor gave me Amoxycillim 500mg, Levofloxacin 500mg, Nexpro 40mg for 14 days...
Now I had finished 14 days of treatment but still I have all symptoms.
I smoke 2 to 3 cigarettes per day and drink one time per week. And I'm continuing my smoking and drinking while on 14 days treatment.I skipped my tablets on 7th day and 14th day cause of drinking and I took those skipped tablets on 15th and 16th day.
Totally I took 16 days to complete 14 days treatment.
Now doctor told me that your infection is gone and symptoms due to anxiety and vitamin defiency and prescribed me to take Nexito plus for 3 months.
Do I need to worry about skipped tablet?
Is really my infection is gone?
does all my symptoms due to anxiety and vitamin defiency?
Does smoking and drinking affected my 14 days treatment?
Thanks

the only way to tell if you still have H. pylori is to repeat the breath or stool test a month later.

However, you cannot take any PPI for at least 2 weeks before the breath test.

You can take Ranitidine instead. Ranitidine is fast acting and will not interfere with breath test.

3 months is fine. most importantly is to have at least two weeks without PPI before the breath test.

if you are keen to know if you still have H. pylori, you can switch your PPI to ranitidine for 2 weeks. stop ranitidine on the night before breath test. ranitidine will not interfere with breath test.
