Still having weird symptoms

The cure of Hp usually requires antibiotics. Other things have been tried and have a weaker effect.

Good morning,

I've did the breath test this week and I''ve received the results of the breath test: NEGATIVE!

As mentioned, I have changed the doctor and he thinks my stool problems and nausea was caused by a gastroenteritis. The stool problems are more or less gone and also don't have any nausea anymore - I have to say, that I still feel sometimes a little weird in the morning.

Even the bacteria was gone, I'm still having issues. I feel like someone has blown my stomach and it presses the other organs above and bellow. Rarely I've felt also a slight burning in my stomach, but this was very rare.

My new gastroenterologist told me, that I'm suffering the reflux disease and prescribed me 20 mg Pantoprazol (one pill in the morning) and strictly not to lie down for 4 hours after having dinner or lunch. I have started to take the pills yesterday and I do feel already slightly better.

I have to say that I am not happy to take PPI because of the side effects, but it looks like that I don't have any other choice.

Another issue I am having is, that I'm getting quickly tired. It is slightly better now, but for example I've went yesterday evening for a walk. It was in total only 3 kilometers, but after the walk I've felt tired. The gastroenterologist told me, that it can take up to 3 years for a full recovery.

So, keep things realistic: I have read that the reflux disease is very common after a helicobacter pylori treatment and that it's also common to get quickly tired. How big are my chances to have full recovery and what can I do to support my body to recover?

Congratulation! most importantly is to have H. pylori removed. Then your condition will only gets better. Hopefully not too long.

I cannot tell you how long you will become 100%. That depends on the damage done.

Hello,

I wanted to give an update about my treatment.

As mentioned in my previous post, beginning September I was tested negative on Helicobacter Pylori.

Due to my problems back then, I was prescribed with 20 mg Pantoprazol for 2 months. During this two months, I was very careful what I was eating. I did not eat anything, which is not easy to digest and that helped me to get better in general.

Beginning November, I've took the last pill and since then I'm not taking any medication. I do feel in general better and I have definitely more energy than back in summer and for the last almost 4 weeks, I was able to survive without PPI.

But still, my digestive system is still very sensitive and I'm very careful what I'm eating. If I eat something which is not that easy to digest (like red meat or something with a lot of fat, like cheese), I feel like there is a stone in my stomach. Immediately in the evening, I will have a lot of stool. So, I'm really trying to avoid the stuff, that is causing that.

Also my stool color is not back to normal yet, especially after I have stopped the PPI.

I always drink mint tea. But what works for me may not work for you. I am sure you can find some examples in this forum.

Hi Helicopter Pylaros,
I have read your story and it's somehow similar to mine. I was diagnosed with HP in August, was given antibiotics, felt better for a couple of months and then my symptoms returned. I was positive I still had HP, had a stool test which turned negative and the following week I had an endoscopy which was also negative and showed only mild gastritis according to the doctor (erythemateus gastritis was the official diagnosis on my test results). Everything else was normal and unremarkable. The doctor suggested PPI for a while which I refused to take as, according to him, my condition was mild and he didn t really insist.
I've been reading a lot about HP and other people's experiences and as Helico Expert says, it seems that symptoms persist even after eradication. I also noticed that symptoms do not always correlate to the damage. In my case, the damage is mild (or so they say) but my symptoms, namely varying degrees of nausea and stomach discomfort, are quite persistent. I am guessing that part of it is psychological. I focus my attention on my stomach, I start worrying and the discomfort becomes more intense. I ve noticed that when I forget about it or when I am distracted I don't feel it anymore or at least not as intensely. Not sure if this applies to you but the stress and obligatory health anxiety HP brings along can worsen the symptoms. Of course this is not the only reason why you still have symptoms after eradication, and based on other people's experiences and expert opinions HP always leaves some degree of damage behind which needs to be addressed and it can take any amount of time to heal properly. I again believe that mind set can be quite important here but I am not a doctor and offering only observational input.
What seems to be working for me is a combination of good quality strong pro biotics. I take 30 million strength every morning on an empty stomach. I also take mastic gum also on an empty stomach, one capsule in the morning and one before bedtime. Also three drops of oregano oil diluted in coconut oil every evening , DGL sometimes before a meal, when I want to indulge in something "heavier" and last but not least L glutamine. I take a half spoonful diluted in a glass of water and drink it in between meals. I also drink yogurt smoothies every morning with bananas and red fruits, namely strawberries, blueberries and raspberries and have drastically reduced processed sugar ( I do have a sweet tooth) and gluten. Now, these treatments are unproven and there is controversial evidence regarding their effectiveness but as I didn t want to go down the PPI and other pharmaceuticals route, I spent hours and hours online doing my amateur research and put together this regiment as it seems to have the most consistent-inconsistent anecdotal results. I am not saying that it will necessarily work for you but it has for me. I see improvement although I still have good days and bad days. I ll keep taking all of them for a month and take it from there.
Good luck with your recovery!

I've posted 6 months ago here on this forum and I would like to give update about my condition. Beginning of December I've visited my doctor for a check up. So far everything looked good and I stopped taking PPI. The doctor gave me 120 Pantoprazol 20mg pills to take if I need. From December till March I was doing quite well and I had to take the PPI 3 times only for a week.

But after April, my condition started slowly to get worse. In the beginning, I thought, I have to take the PPI again for a week and I would be good again. But in the end, I'm taking Pantoprazol since April and it's not getting better. Especially the last 3 weeks haven't been good at all. My digestive system got again very sensitive and as soon I'm eating that is not very easily digestible, I have spasm in my stomach and and immediate effect on my stool. So, I have to be very careful with what I'm eating. Also, I had the issue of feeling daze and nausea - especially 2 weeks ago. It got better after I changed slightly my diet.

Just before I was diagnosed with a Helicobacter Pylori infection last year, I had pain in my stomach. I can't say that I have pain, but I feel something exactly in the same spot again. Hard to describe. It's like slight burn. It comes and goes. I feel it more, when I'm hungry.

So, to summarize: Right now, I'm not doing well at all and I'm not energetic at all.

A week ago I went to my doctor. The appointment was already scheduled 6 months ago. After telling him about the past 6 months, he quickly decided to do a gastroscopy. Otherwise he can't tell what is going on with me. Because I have to get off the PPI first, the gastroscopy is scheduled for the 16th July. According to my doctor, it can be either that the stomach is not closing properly and acid is coming up, or Helicobacter Pylori was not properly eradicated.

As mentioned, the first doctor refused to make a Helicobacter Pylori test after the antibiotics treatment and I changed now to my current doctor. He tested me back in September 2018 and the test result was negative.

Not sure what is going on with me, but I'm kinda concerned. Can it really be, that Helicobacter Pylori wasn't properly eradicated - even though the was negative?

usually the breath test is very accurate. However, if you want, you can always get another breath test done.

If H. pylori is not eradicated, it will grow back in mass within 2 weeks.
