Post-Treatment - Gastritis, Ulcer?

Received blood tests and tested positive for H Pylori. Looking back at previous testing, I've had this since 2012, probably dates back even further.
History of acid reflux, depression, and asthma.

June 13 started triple therapy, clarithromycin, metronidazole, amoxicillin, and 40mg omeprazole for 14 days. The first 2 weeks after treatment I felt much better. Then the last two weeks I started to get severe abdominal distension, I decided to get re-tested for H Pylori via Stool test July 27th, which was about 4 weeks post-treatment. Came back NEGATIVE.

I went to the ER, were the conducted an xray and said it was probably gastritis, take 40mg of PPI + H2 Blocker.

My questions are this: Could this be an ulcer, or something more serious? If it were an ulcer, isn't the treatment the same? Plus antibiotics again?

I've been taking this PPI cocktail for a few days now with a small improvement in abdominal distension, still comes and goes. How long do these things take to subside? Inflammation and what - not? Is there a chance my stool test could've been inaccurate and I still have H Pylori?

I have an appt with my PCP to see a GI next week though. I feel like it is more of an ulcer than just gastritis.

Stool test is a good test. However, if you are till in doubt, you can get a breath test done. But most likely you are negative of H. pylori now.

If you have ulcer, it would have healed after eradication of H. pylori. Almost 50% of ulcers is because of H. pylori. Another 50% of stomach ulcers is because of NSAIDs. are you taking any pain killers? such as ibuprofen, aspirin, voltaren. etc?

If you are free of H. pylori, and experiencing reflux symptoms, you'll have to take H2 blocker or PPI, whichever you find effective to you.

Kiaser doesn't offer breath test unfortunately.

I used to take nsaid, but never abused them. Since discovery of harm, I quit permanently.. no alcohol, plain diet

So if it isn't an ulcer, could it be gastritis? How long, on average does that take to heal?

the recovery is subjective. it depends how much damage is done. You'll need an endoscopy to get better understanding of the damage.

You can try if omeprazole solve your problem. if you have ulcer, it'll take about a month to heal.

try to be positive and make sure you get re test done. you have access to stool or breath test? you dont need to wait 6 months for the re test.

only endoscopy can tell if you have an ulcer. However, with or without cancer, the treatment is the same. Which is a month of PPI.

Nevertheless, if you had never had endoscopy before and you are over 50 yrs old, it is better to have one done.

Tips: blood test cannot be used to test for HP eradication. You'll need to repeat the stool test. It is important to to stop PPI for at least month before stool test.
