my h pylori infection is resistant to all treatment

The cure of Hp usually requires antibiotics. Other things have been tried and have a weaker effect.

Post by lvy6zqcance »

Hi
I have had this h pylori infection for a long time now.I have noticed that my infection has become resistant to the main triple therapy regiments. At the moment when I take this medications the symptoms rather worsen
Is there any country specifically India where they can do culture and sensitivity test to select different drugs for me.I am really suffering

I am afraid I dont know who has the ability to culture H. pylori in India.

If you are not allergic to Amoxicillin, you can always repeat the use of Amoxicillin.

Talk to your GP or specialist next time, if you are able to get Rabeprazole + Bismuth + Amoxicillin + [one antibiotic that you have not had previously]

I would try Tetracycline as it is pretty hard to get resistant to Tetracycline too.

Hi,

I have been unsuccessful in treating my Helicobacter pylori for over 10 years! I have tried all the usual triple therapy treatments, followed by De-Nol tables with Tetracycline etc.

During this time having several Gastroscopy examinations, revealing the HP (taking biopsy) BUT unable to culture it in the labs; and appears to be antibiotic resistant.

I have a lot of inflammation and the usual symptoms but of late also starting to have difficulty in swallowing and the re flux has returned with a vengeance! I have a para-esophageal Hernia.

The last resort from my doctor is to try yet again, another Regime for 14 days of:
ciprofloxacin 500mg x 2 day
rifabutin 150mg x 2 day
omeprazole 40 mg x 3 day
Amoxycillin 1000 mg x 3 day

The strain of HP that I have is Sulfurimonas (sulfuricurvum species) which is resistant to antibiotic and can not be cultured!
My concern is why take the Regime above, if this wont kill the bacteria? can you advise if you are aware of this strain and if the Regime will in fact have any affect?

Its taken its toll on me, not just physically but emotionally but I need answers and a cure and will continue to search. Would it be advisable to contact the centre for digestive disease and see Professor Borody?

about 10% of our patients' H. pylori are unculturable.

your last treatment was actually a very good one.

you need to discuss with your doctor about the following tips, if they have not been tried.

use rabeprazole 20mg (3x a day)
bismuth (or De-Nol) 2x120mg (4x a day)
Amoxicillin 1000mg (3x a day)
Furazolidone 100mg (3x a day)

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I haven't tried the last Regime and what I really want to know is, will it kill the HP? has there been any firm data on the success rate of this particular mix? I'm just tried to get my head around the fact that if I have a bacteria that is antibiotic resistant, then why take a vast amount of it? is there no other treatment and this is all that can be offered?

As I'm part of this 10% ..... Is there anything out there to help us?

Have you heard of this strain that I supposedly have? being: ulfurimonas (sulfuricurvum species)

according to our own patient's record. This PBAF has a cure rate of 87%.

Unfortunately I have no experience on Sulfuricurvum. how was this being diagnosed? is there a specific test that was done?

I am going to assume as I am in the 10% of resistant HP then I will be the 13% that the resigme won’t work... so what then for any of us?
How many strains of HP are known and identified by you?

haha... it's better to be optimistic.

There are too many strains of H. pylori. Mainly, there are 7 population types. But these population types have nothing to do with disease severity. Interestingly, the population typing can aid the study of human migration.
