My Pylera experience

The cure of Hp usually requires antibiotics. Other things have been tried and have a weaker effect.

My Pylera experience

Post by brooklynchic »

I am writing this currently one post treatment and will update once I have my one month stool test. I weight 115lbs and eat only seafood and vegetables. I was already on a temporary dairy elimination diet. I also work out 5-6 days a week.

Like most H.Pylori infected persons, I was terrified of taking Pylera and spent countless hours scouring the internet trying to find some miracle cure or at least a non-painful way of taking Pylera. I wish that I was writing to say that I had succeeded but it was an uncomfortable experience and I hope I never have to go through again.

Everybody is different so hopefully others will have a better experience. I am sharing hoping someone will benefit as I did from other people’s posts.

I work from home and so this facilitated the taking of this medication. I was deathly afraid of being sick outside of my home so I cancelled all plans and told everyone that I would not be seeing them during the exorcism.

Coming up with a pill schedule was difficult, as I was determined to eat before every pill session, which included a probiotic after the first dosage and a probiotic before the last. Initially I took one pantrapazole at 7AM, 30 minutes before my breakfast as indicated on the bottle but about day fourI ended up taking with the antibiotics and increasing it to twice a day. Initially this translated into 7 pill times a day, which I later reduced to 6.

I set my phone for ten days of alarms of when I had to eat in order to stay on a schedule of taking the probiotics two hours after the antibiotic. This made for a long day especially since the bedtime dosage meant I had to eat and sit up for hours so as to not have severe acid reflux.

I drank massive amounts of water a day. I went through a 5 gallon bottle in 4 days. Additionally I drank chamomile and ginger teas. I think that this helped side effects as I didn’t have nausea or diarrhea only softer stool 3 times a day.

The first two days I had severe bloating and increasing fatigue. I also noticed my skin was very dry.
Day three- my tongue had a burning sensation and when I looked it had a cut. I hadn’t eaten anything sharp so I assume it was Pylera. I started feeling a little itchy but nothing serious.
Day four- I started feeling a little anxious but it wasn’t overwhelming. The acid reflux started getting considerably worst. I was exhausted from the lack of sleep. I don’t know if this caused the weeping that soon followed.
Days five -seven-I woke up feeling better even though the acid reflux and lack of sleep were putting me in a state.
Day 8-10 – The acid reflux was horrible.
First day post Pylera –I woke up with a headache, metallic taste, mucky tongue and the lovely coffee grains stool. I am having very bad acid reflux even after my pantrapazole dosage this morning.

I do expect to feel better soon.

it's unfortunate that you have those side effects. But the good news is that you made through. Very proud of you. Let's wait 4 weeks and get retested again. This is a strong combination. So I am quite confident that you'll get treated.

Hello Helico expert
So now the acid reflux is very bad. I spoke to my doctor yesterday who has suggested I see a more specialized doctor because I am suffering-very bad pain, burning and unable to sleep. She felt that I should be feeling better by now since I completed my antibiotics on Sunday.

Out of desperation I called my uncle who is an internist and he spent an hour trying to counsel me on what to do. He suggested I take the pantoprazole before going to bed on a completely empty stomach including any liquids. So nothing 2-3 hours before I plan to go to bed. Since I'd already taken the pantoprazole in the morning yesterday this was not an option. I took maalox instead for some relief. It helped mildy but then I woke up again with the same problems. I reach out to you as I am confused and becoming very concened. Any guidance is much appreciated.

you can take double or even triple dose of the PPI if it's really bad. Also, is it possible to organise a follow up endoscopy? perhaps your specialist can then organise a histology, bacterial culture, antibiotic sensitivity check.

I had to stop taking the PPI as I noticed that it was causing severe anxiety. I am now on some homeopathic supplements and the acid reflux is slowly diminishing. I still can't lay down flat or bend at the waist but it isn't all day long like last week.

glad to hear that you found something that works for you. You do need to get a follow up test to make sure the bug is gone for good. Or else you are just wasting time waiting for some improvement that will never come.

My followup appointment is for the end of the month at which my doctor will do a stool sample.

Just got my result and it is negative! I am still experiencing some some symptoms but I am taking some homeopathic treatments and they have subsided considerably. I started eating acidic foods yesterday and I didn't have the severe reaction I had before.

Thank you Helico Expert as you and this board were of tremendous help to me. I am very grateful.

that's a fantastic news. I know that you may not feel 100% in your stomach, but at least we are clear that your H. pylori is gone. I am sure given enough time, it'll recover gradually. Once again, congratulation with your spicy food experiment. Not sure how spicy you tried, but you might want to go slow on that.
