H Pylori and Lichen Sclerosus

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

H Pylori and Lichen Sclerosus

Post by msanders »

I was diagnosed with vulvar lichen sclerosus a few years ago. I was just diagnosed with H. Pylori. From what I'm reading, stomach acids are involved in how he H. Pylori bacteria behave. I will experience lichen sclerosus flare ups from acidic foods - I haven't eaten a tomato in years. Is it possible that there is a link?

I think there is a link between H Pylori infection and Vulval Lichen Sclerosis as I have also been diagnosed with both of these conditions.I think it is down to the antibodies produced by the body to eradicate the infection going into overdrive and therefore creating an autoimmune disease which is Lichen Sclerosus.
I am also putting my post partum haemorrhaging down to H Pylori as I have read that it could cause a reduction in platelets in the blood. Does anyone out there think these things could be linked?

Have a look further down this list to a posting by confusedpatient, Rose on Fri 19 Nov 2010, titled " I am totally confused this is my history". Fourth line down she mentions she has Lichen Sclerosus and is positive for H Pylori.

hiya i have been diagnosed with helicobacter pylori twice in the last 3 years and i have just been diagnosed with lichens sclorosis i definately think these two must be linked i am being referred to dermatology and i am going to ask them if this is a possiblity and will let you know the answer. Surely it cant just be coincidence that a few of us have had both x :?

H. pylori can be in your body for decades. most infected people dont even know they are infected and carry it for life. So it is possible to be co infected with other pathogen during its infection.

Actually lichen sclerosis is a long term skin infection which has a major effect to the genital areas. In fact the women are more likely to get affected after menopause. The major symptoms are itching which is very common, sometimes you will feel discomfort and develop blisters. Doctors think that the hormonal imbalances are the major cause and lichen sclerosis also appears on the damaged skin with previous injuries. So I think there is no association between H. Pylori

I just wanted to post that I was diagnosed with Lichens about a year ago and about a year before that I was treated for H Pylori - so there could be a link.

I would also mention that inbetween using the strong steriod cream I have found a lot of relief by using Boots Calamine & Glycerin Cream after trying lots of different products. Like everyone else it was frightening news after being diagnosed but I have managed to have a few months completely free of it - whether it was down to the calamine cream or a coincidence I don't know. But a little bit of hope for fellow suffers.
