Could it be h pylori?

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

Could it be h pylori?

Post by veritas »

I have had h.pylori before, nearly 10 years ago. My symptoms involved a dull, gnawing pain that got worse when I didn't eat. I got tested and successfully treated for it through antibiotics. I got it yet again, 6 years ago. It was again resolved with antibiotics.

Now, over the last 3-4 months I've had certain symptoms that don't resemble the h.pylori I've had in the past. For example, I feel some nausea and I vomit up a bit of undigested food shortly after eating. The dull, gnawing pain isn't there. But there is a very slight burning sensation in my stomach (it isn't painful). Could this again be caused by h.pylori?

How can it come back after successful treatments?

10 and 6 years ago, did you do a follow up to make sure your treatment work (H. pylori truly eradicated)?

it is best you do a breath test to find out if you still have H. pylori. If you do, I recommend you find a good specialist who knows about resistant strains and make sure he follow up you after treatment.

No I did not do follow ups either time. I didn't know that I had to, wasn't informed by the doctors, and since my symptoms went away, I didn't think I had to.

Do you know if h.pylori can cause this nausea and vomiting undigested food after eating? I don't have the dull, gnawing pain that I used to when I had h.pylori in the past. Can h.pylori cause gastritis or ulcers which is presenting the symptoms I currently have? What are the chances of it being stomach cancer?

H. pylori can cause gastritis, ulcers, and iron deficiency.

iron deficiency can lead to nausea and lack of energy.

during acute infection, can lead to vomit. But this is uncommon symptom of H. pylori infection.

It is not good practice to "guess" if you have H. pylori based on the symptoms. It is better to get a breath test done to confirm your hypothesis.
