IBS

Approximately 6 weeks after completion of antibiotics I am still constipated, gassy and bloated. I'm having the retest soon to see if I have h pylori, but now I'm doubting that I ever really had it. (I tested positive via blood) Constipation and gas was and is my only symptom other than pain, which admittedly is gone after the antibiotics. Is it possible that H Pylori has given me IBS?

Yep. Some people can get post-infectious IBS. I think I may have that too. The good thing is that it usually goes away with time. At least that's what I have been told by my GI.

My GI told me that post infectious IBS would be "the new norm". Strange these doctors can't get anything straight.

The truth is, nobody knows exactly why and how people develop these post treatment problems. I suggest you do a follow up breath test to find out if you are still infected with H. Pylori.

My new GI says I probably never even had H Pylori because my symptoms don't match up.

A blood test will tell you if you had H. pylori before. but that's not important. If you do a breath test, it'll tell you if you have H. pylori now.

For gas and bloating you can try a low-FODMAP diet. Or consider other possible causes, such as intestinal parasites.
