Feel like something is stuck in the back of my throat. Help!

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

Feel like something is stuck in the back of my throat. Help!

Post by doddyk96 »

Firstly, I am so so glad to have found this forum. I was diagnosed with H pylori about 10 days ago but have probably had it for a while and never got it checked out cause of my fear of doctors...symptoms have been there for many months.

Anyway, I'm now on the typical triple treatment; amoxicillin, clarithromycin and oemprazol. Seems to be going well, I guess. I still have symptoms but they seem to be getting somewhat better.

One thing that particularly concerns me and the doctor said nothing about is this constant feeling like something is stuck in the back of my throat. No back pain or anything of that sort and this isn't in the lower part of the esophagus. Its right at the end of my throat...I'm getting very very concerned that it might be cancer and want an endoscopy but I only have student insurance and trips to the doctor, a procedure like an endoscopy and anesthesia for the procedure would cost me wayyy too much and I would love to avoid it if I have no reason to worry.

Just wanted to get some info or help from people here. I browsed around and searched the forums but found nothing similar to this issue. It is not painful as much, makes swallowing just a little hard I guess but the constant feeling concerns me. Specially because I smoke cigarettes and am VERY worried about cancer. I am quitting the cigarettes and have started on nicotine gum.

As background I am 20 and male. Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

You'll need to book a retest for your H. pylori to check if it is eradicated. When you visit your doctor, you can tell him your concern and see what he has to say. I think you are still young and so it shouldnt be a big problem. of course, unless you have close relative that has cancer.

In addition, if you search through this forum, you'll read similar stories about "things" stuck behind the throat.

Thank you for your help. I'll search through the forums again. No close relatives with cancer though. Your reply made me feel better.

Expect these weird symptoms. If there's one thing I would recommend is not to overthink. I developed all sort of weird symptoms during my treatment but they all have slowly subsided. The more you think about them the worse they get.

I did go for for an endoscopy to put my (irrational) concerns to ease. As expected, they didn't find anything. But above all I was relieved. I was on student insurance as well. My out of pocket was < $500. Talk to your student healthcare reps.

I would suggest you to get back to your doctor and discuss your issues with him. It may be possible that your symptoms have not subsided completely.

Thank you for all your replies everyone. So my GP figured out what it was, it was pretty obvious honestly - I should've spotted it. So the antibiotics gave me oral thrush which was pretty harmless otherwise but was causing my symptom of feeling like something was stuck in my throat. He gave me some nystatin mouthwash for it which seems to be working pretty well and its pretty much gone. Another strange reason was my uvula had become elongated and also led to the feeling of something stuck in throat. Doc said that was symptom of dehydration but occurs rarely, anyway I started drinking more water and took some emergenC and that seems to be taken care of.

For anyone else who feels the same way, please check your tongue in the mirror for thrush or white deposits. Don't freak out if you see them, in some people antibiotics will cause that. Just go to your doctor and let them know - it will either eventually go away after you stop the medication or if its getting serious, doc can give you mouthwash or lozenges to take care of it.

Thankyou to everyone in this forum. This place is a great source of support!

I am also on H-pylori tripple therapy ...First week I had strong pain chest throat was bothering me sometimes it felt a lot of pressure on it and sometimes I felt like something was stuck ..I went to the doctor and he said that the throat was irritated ..he suggested Cepacol or something else non-menthol if possible..I tried but it did not work the throat was hurting when I was eating.....SO I TRIED HALF A SPOON : HONEY,OLIVE OIL AND BAKING SODA.....MIX THEM UP .......HALF OF IT TRY TO KEEP IT IN YOUR THROAT FOR AT LEAST 10-15 SECONDS....THEN DO THE SAME THING WITH THE REST OF MIXTURE.........DO THIS 3 TIMES A DAY...IT WILL REMOVE 90% OF THE PAIN.( that was the effect on me)...I THOUGHT I HAD TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCE SO AT LEAST I CAN HELP SOMEONE OUT THERE.

p.s make sure you use organic honey and extra virgin olive oil..

Sorry for the late response. How do you feel now after the honey and olive oil method?
