H Pylori, Lyme, Pancreatitis, etc.

My son has Lyme Disease, Chronic & Acute Pancreatitis, H Pylori, Moderate Gastritis, GERD, Barretts Esophogus, hiatul hernia, IBS, Diverticulosis. His wife has epilepsy, fibromyalgia & H Pylori. Both my daughter in law and my son have been very ill throwing up for months. My daughter in law was prescribed a H Pylori Pac and I believe they are going to prescribe the same for my son.

Are there any other tips one might offer in addressing these health problems? My son is 37 and his wife is 29. They would like to have children, but their health is holding them back. It seems a little crazy that my son has so many GI problems. (I didn't go into lipid, blood pressure, heart rate, liver problem, arthritis)

They have a cat and a dog, though the dog doesn't stay inside most of the time. I wonder if that could cause any problems?

For H. pylori infection, it is important to make sure the bug is truly eradicated. Have they done a follow up breath test to confirm?

Domestic animal can sometimes pass Helicobacter to human. However, that's only if you share food (with or without intention) with them. Hygiene is the key to prevent reinfection.

GI problem is complicated. Let's hope the HP Pac will be able to reset your son's GI tract. take some probiotic product after the antibiotics and hopefully, that will prevent the bad bacteria growing back.

Contracting H pylori also disintegrated my health dramatically. Again I want to note the liver problems which came up in my blood tests as well. Another condition that was diagnosed after eradication was Aplastic anemia. Obviously I cant say with absolute certainty that H pylori had any role in it, but I do want to point out that I had normal health prior to contracting this nasty bacterial infection. Perhaps it also depends on what h. pylori genus and species is involved, maybe the strain I picked up at the Hospital was a more vicious: I have no clue. The fact of the matter we will never know, I'm just glad the whole ordeal is over and I can now focus on recovering in baby steps.

Thanks for the response. My DIL has just been on the H Pylori Pac for about 5 days now. My son had a biospy and hasn't gotten the results yet.

Wow! So many health concerns that can be connected. I'm concerned. I need to learn a lot more about all this. Is there some place that has info about hygenic practices that could read up on?

There is no need to be paranoid about hygiene. Just wash your hands frequently and avoid sharing food and drinks.

Well, it's good to know we don't have to turn the house upside down and sterilize everything. But obviously my son and his wife need to be treated at the same time or they will probably just reinfect each other.

But I'm still confused with all the information. If they both are taking an H Pac, is there anything else they should be doing at the same time?

there is no guideline or recommendation for people who are taking HP Pac for H. pylori eradication. However, some people suggest probiotics after treatment to help good bacteria to establish before the bad ones.

Aside from the Probiotics I would also advice to take some sort of anti-fungal (i.e Nystatin) while on Antibiotics because otherwise an intestinal Candida imbalance may occur and spread further, especially in people who are immunodeficient.
