A little advice please......

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

A little advice please......

Post by Jay001 »

Hello there,

I would really appreciate some advice as its been playing on my mind over the holidays...

For the last 5-6 months I've been suffering from abdominal/osephugus discomfort. I wouldn't say its severe pain, but it is noticeable all of the time. The discomfort never seems to go away. I went to my doctor twice, who twice suggested it was a strain of some kind and it would go away in time. 3 months later it was still there. I went to a different doctor who recommended a blood test which resulted in me being tested positive for H Pylori. After a 7 day course of antibiotics the pain still persisted. I returned again and the doctor told me to give it a few more weeks as the stomach could still be settling. I've given it time and there is no change....

I'm starting to think that H Pylori hasn't been causing these issues and its just a coincidence. I've adjusted my diet, I've gone from bring a regular drinker to pretty much abstaining from alcohol. I am seemingly burping (i say 4 times an hour) a lot more but there again I may have always burped a lot and never given it a second thought....

The discomfort remains in the oesophagus region, just below the rip cage. It doesn't burn, it's just there. I wake up with it but it doesn't stop me from sleeping. food and liquid seems to have minimal effect on it. It's not stopping me or particularly hurting me but I've gone from being a perfectly healthy 31 year old, who fortunately has never suffered any health ailments previous to this dragging on for 6 months. I'm not used to having long term issues so if I have one, I always presume its something more sinister...

Apart from burping, coughing and discomfort there is no other issues bothering me...

Shall I give it a chance to heal for longer? Does the stomach, if inflamed, take a long time (i.e. months) to settle? Does everything I've described point to H Pylori causing these issues or could there be something else?

Any help/advice would be very welcome...

Thanks again.

it is possible that your discomfort is not caused by H. pylori. However, it is always easier to think that H. pylori is the culprit because it's easy to treat. So, how about going back to your GP and ask for a breath test? that will confirm if your H. pylori has been eradicated. Perhaps, you've got the resistant strain and your previous antibiotic treatment failed.
