Is there a link between heart disease and HP?

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

Is there a link between heart disease and HP?

Post by HPgirl »

Wondering if there are any solid findings linking low HDL cholesterol, liver abnormalities and HPylori? Thank you for any input!

Hi HPgirl,

I'm currently writing my second book on H pylori - it's actually specifically on the topic of H pylori and Heart Disease.

There's now quite a lot of research showing how H pylori causes metabolic changes that increase heart disease risk factors.

Homocysteine, blood pressure, insulin resistance, CRP, fibrinogen, cholesterol profile, antioxidant capacity and other markers associated with heart disease appear to be affected by H pylori infection in a way that may promote heart disease.

Furthermore, meta-analysis studies suggest a positive relationship between H pylori and heart disease.

I'm composing a free article series at my website on the topic as well, for those people who don't want to buy the book.

See www.h-pylori-symptoms.com/h-pylori-symptoms
Click on H Pylori Articles and you'll find the first Heart Disease article there.

Hope this helps!
Warmest regards,
Dave

If you go to http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/ and search, you'll find plenty there.

Try typing in H pylori along with keywords such as homocysteine, oxidative damage,
stroke, atherosclerosis, etc.

Of course, as always the studies conclude "more studies are needed...." but when you
understand the pathology of heart disease, it's not hard to see how H pylori (and other
infections such as dental infections) can cause changes to the metabolism that promote
cardiovascular disease (and cerebrovascular disease).

Hope this helps.
Best,
Dave Hompes.
