Re: empiric (personalized) salvage therapy

The treatment you mention (Om-Met-Tet-Bism) is not bad, and even met-resistant Hp can be killed by it (we don't understand why) so that the cure rate is probably more than 70%. To boost it, I would push the doses of antibiotics and have multiple frequent doses - 3 hourly for example. Bismuth dose ca...

All Perth labs do the urea breath test. Any GP can order it for you. Results usually come back in 3 days.

Re: ppi intragastric pH after treatment

Hi, Unless you have a biopsy test and acid measurement in the fasting state, at endoscopy, it is hard to work out what your status is. If the biopsy shows normal numbers of parietal cells the acid should be relatively normal. Read up on atrophic gastritis. You should read this post: http://www.helic...

Re: H Pylori - After Treatment

Several studies have shown that you should wait 28 days after your last tablet - then have the breath test. Sooner than that you might not have sufficient bacteria to show up on the test and you would have a FALSE NEGATIVE result. We don't want that! H.pylori is sometimes a slow growing bacteria. :u...

Re: spreading hp

Good News: In a study of 60 mothers in Belgium, mothers did not transmit Hp to their babies in the first year. To be careful, just make sure you have good dental hygiene. If there is any doubt, a stool antigen test can check for Hp in a baby (if it was me, I would have this done after I myself was c...

Re: H pylori, moderate gastritis

Hi, let me clarify for you (search my other recent posts as these are common questions): The gastritis may never totally heal but remains in a "mild chronic" form. This is usually asymptomatic. Taking all patients, in double blind trials, 7% are TOTALLY CURED and about 30% are substantially better. ...

Re: Allergies Helicobacter

Just a quick clarification here: It is normal that "mild chronic gastritis" persists in the stomach for several years after H.pylori treatment. This means that some lymphocytes hang around in the mucosa, but might be "sleeping" although ready to fight if a new infection appears. They don't cause any...

Re: false negative on breath test - POS on stool DNA ??

Re value of stool test (? using DNA) and urea breath test (UBT): I can't see the type of test used for the Metametrix panel of pathogens. PCR/DNA on stool is problematic but maybe they have a very good validated test. Stool antigen is the usual test and that is close to the accuracy of the UBT. As b...

Re: My Dog Died Because of Undiagnosed HP

Heilmannii Stoeffel Vet Anat Bern Swz.png Thank you for all the information about Megaesophagus in Dogs (ME). Re: Second line therapy (IS TETRACYCLINE SAME AS DOXYCYCLINE

Re: Second line therapy (IS TETRACYCLINE THE SAME AS DOXYCYCLINE??) I just want to interrupt the conversation on the issue above. Although in the same group, and with identical effects in vitro , these two antibiotics work differently in humans with H.pylori. The tetracycline persists in the stomach...
