B12 Information

Post by shoaibalam »

Hello everyone !

i am suffering from Gastritis along with H.Pylori positive from last 2-3 years. Today i just got my Serum B12 report, it shows 147 pg/ml value .

Is it normal level for someone who's 25 years old male ?????

Remember i am not feeling comfortable from last couple of month ( and my symptoms are dizziness, tiredness, spinning, serious headache, itchy skin, allergies etc ) all these are because of B12 ???????????

The normal range for Vit B12 is 200-400 pg/ml. In comparison, your level is a bit low.

B12 level has some association with H. pylori, but the mechanism is unknown. In most cases, people with H. pylori infection has low B12.

B12 is related to a list of things. you can read it from wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_B12_deficiency

Did your GP suggest anything to you? such as taking B12 supplement? and/or antibiotics to get rid of H. pylori?

We dont have Urea breath test facility here in Karachi- Pakistan. (Infact Doctors know very little about it, I went to few doctors who don't consider H.pylori as a diseases," On their view this is totally normal if you have this bacteria and says every second person is infected with this.)

So i have to wait 6-8 weeks and then go either for Stool or Blood test !

I have taken 1g amoxicillin + 500mg clarithromycin and 500 clarithromycin + 400 Flagyl courses

i have also tried 1g amoxicillin (4 times a day) for a month many times. but won't work ?

My last Endoscopic report shows :" Mild pangastritis "and Biopsy reports states that :"Mild chronic gastritis with bacterium like H.pylori , focal intestinal metaplasia is noted".

Any suggestions ?

Your H. pylori is probably resistant to Clarithromycin and Flagyl. From our experience, we have never seen a H. pylori that is resistant to amoxicillin. So I think you can keep taking amoxicillin in your next treatment. However, Amoxicillin alone is not strong enough. You'll need to combine with something else. Try bismuth and ciprofloxacin together with amoxicillin and double dose PPI. You'll need double dose PPI to make ciprofloxacin work in stomach.

have a look at our recent publication.

look for the supportive document to check the dosage of other antibiotic combinations

Hi,

""[Infact Doctors know very little about it, I went to few doctors who don't consider H.pylori as a diseases," On their view this is totally normal if you have this bacteria and says every second person is infected with this.]""

Regarding above fact, even i have also encountered the above statement from couple of GI's from whom i took advice for my HP infection...
so is this because they know less about hpylori infection and sometime fail to cure hp infected patient and finally diagnose them IBS...
or they doubt Hpylori alone could cause sever symptoms ? (knowing fact that it grows slowly) ?

Thanks for the information, i would try this ! ( but mg's are missing of bismuth and ciprofloxacin, how much ?)

Another thing Dear can you please exact brand name of bismuth and ciprofloxacin (Clarithromycin i.e. klaricid), it would be convenient for me, i would just go to pharmacist and buy them ! ( i guess Doctors won't prescribed me , they didn't know it is used for H.pylori eradication)

Thanks alot !

H. pylori is not taken as seriously as other diseases because it can be cured. well... most of the time. in addition, only a fraction of these troubled patients develop a more severe disease like cancer, especially at age of >60 yrs old. So, if you are young, not too severe (as in dying) in your stomach, can be controlled by PPI (probably earn them a lot of money by your continuous visit), some doctors dont take it too seriously. Then again, there are protocols (or medicine guideline) that they have to follow. And these guidelines are probably not very updated and did not advice them what to do if they come across a very resistance case (like yours).

anyway... you should go to your doctor, show them the paper or other research articles, discuss with them about side effects and drug interactions. They should know if your country have those drug available and if they are up to date, they'll know the resistance level of those drug in your country.
