How come its okey to use H2 blockers before a test but not proton pump inhibitors?

because H2 blocker doesnt do "long term" inhibition. the moment you stop H2 blocker, your acid comes back very quickly. Whereas PPI, does a more complex inhibition in acid making. When you take PPI, your acid production slowly reduce to a minimum. When you stop taking PPI, your acid production gradually comes back.

Hence, H2 blocker act faster. Gives quick symptom relief. But doesnt reduce acid to minimum. PPI act slower, but does reduce acid to minimum. PPI gives better protection in longer term.
