to ltb,

the good news is, your ulcer is healing. you have been on heavy antibiotics and I think your doctor know what he is doing.

Hopefully when your ulcer is completely healed, the burping will then subside.

hi
just a quick update. had biopsy results back and they are normal. this was before my last round of triple therapy so I probably didn't need it! how reliable are biopsy from stomach in detection of hp? is it more reliable than breath or stool test? can they miss it?
my burping is better now im off the antibiotics but its still there. still feels odd. I have 2 more weeks on ppi left. can an ulcer/inflammation really cause all this burping? im dreading coming off the ppi as I don't want to come off it to early if things haven't healed. I took it for whole month before and ulcer had only half healed. do they take months to heal?

not sure what to do after this. I guess I could do a blood test to see if ive ever had hp? ive never got positive test yet and I have a duodenal ulcer and dr is sure ive had it ! its just so odd!

50% of the ulcers can be due to NSAIDs. eg. ibuprofen, aspirin, etc. So if you take it too often, you'll develop stomach ulcer. So, have you been taking those pain killers prior the first endoscopy?

you cannot do blood test after antibiotic treatment to confirm the HP. if you had HP before, your blood test will stay positive for months to years.

if you really want to reconfirm your HP, breath test is what you can try.

biopsy result is accurate but it is very skill dependent. If the pathologist is good, the result is accurate.

Lastly, PPI reduced the acid in your stomach and make it neutral. It is possible that other bacteria start growing and may contribute to your problem. So, perhaps you want to eat some probiotics to improve the good bacteria ratio?

hi...just another update and wanted some advice.
So Ive never tested positive for H pylori but my doctor is sure ive had it as I have a duodenal ulcer, and constant duodenitis. Had 2 rounds of antibiotics and my acid burping still remains. On last endoscope ulcer was healing but I developed duodenitis.

Last week I thought it would be a good idea to see if ive EVER actually had H pylori by doing a Blood Antigen test (if this showed positive then at least I could say I once had it and therefore say that my ulcer was definitely caused by it. (I never take pain killers so it wasn't going to be this).

I got my blood results and they came back "equivocal" . Apparently this means maybe! So still no solid answer!
I got tested for 2 different H pylori Antigen. Both my result number for these had to be:-

under 8 for negative
between 8-12 for equivocal
over 12 for positive

My result for the first antigen was 6.3 so definitely negative.
my result for the second antigen was 11.5 so they told me it was equivocal, but its so close to a positive result! Soooo frustrating!!

I know the blood test cannot tell me if I currently have h pylori but I just wanted to do this to be sure Ive ever had it. Do you think the 11.5 result suggests Ive had it? Its clearly not negative anyway!

At least if I get a positive blood test it pretty much means that it definitely was h pylori that caused my problems , and I can then rule out other bacteria etc. Ive had biopsies, stool test, and 2 endoscopies. All say normal, yet I know im not right as I have constant acid burps on an empty stomach and as soon as I wake up. Plus I have an ulcer and strange taste in mouth. Im also getting shivers and crackling chest sounds so generally unwell.

Ive been taking mastic gum for the last wek, 1000mg per day and I want to next do a stool test and breath test. Do I need to be off the mastic gum for 2 weeks for this too?

the general rules is, anything that will reduce bacterial load, will cause false negative. I am not sure what mastic gum will do to the bacterial load.

For your case, since you already had two rounds of antibiotics, you should wait for a month without PPI and antibiotics, then repeat the stool/breath test. Are you able to access breath test? It seems your stool test results have not been consistent.

Ok Im going to the doctor next week and im reluctant to try a third treatment but I just want to know what to ask for if I have to.
My first treatment was:
amox, clarith, ppi 7 days

second treatment :
tetra, metron, ppi 7 days

I may have had a slight allergy to either amox or clarith on 1st treatment as I had a slight slight and bad yellow diarreah but I coped with this and finished the course.

I will have tests first but I still have acid burping and strange taste in mouth and still feel the same. I am now 1 week off pii, and1 month after 2nd treatment. Could I still be acidic due to acid rebound after a week off ppi? my ulcer should now be healed but I am still burping on empty stomach.
thanks so much for your replies-you are keeping me going!

you are doing great. I assume you are going for another breath test. there are other acid blockers to take if the reflux is worsen.

check this guideline on which acid blocker to take before UBT.

hi
well i'm still having problems! nearly a year and a half now!
Got another endoscope on Monday. Basically everytime I come off PPI (Lanzoprazole) I get a duodenal ulcer within about 8 weeks! This is what has happened over the last year:

January: diagnosis peptic ulcer/duodenitis/gastritis
March: After 6 weeks on PPi: Ulcer still there!
May: After another 6 weeks on PPI : Erosion found and duodenitis
August: After 4 weeks on PPI: Peptic ulcer is back with duodenitis

Im still having acid burping daily and strange taste in mouth at times. Since August Ive ben on PPI until December. If my ulcer is still there on Monday I will burst into tears! I cant take much more. Its not the symtoms so much as the docs cant find out what is causing these problems. All stool/breath/biopsies have come back negative for H pylori!! One doctor on Harley st thinks its another unknown bacteria....which scares me as I don't know what im dealing with. I don't take Ibuprofen, and I know that its something I caught as my brother caught it at the same time and he is also still not good.

What about histology? did the pathology says he sees any bacteria? or inflammation?
