Hello everyone and expert,

Happy new year to all of you.
I have been fine without any symptoms for more than two months. The symptoms just came back the week before last week after i ate some spicy food and lots of orange, and sunflower seeds. My symptoms are: food reflux when i burp. for example, i always feel something hanging in my throat after meal, and can burp up some food sometimes. also, i had heartburn last week for three times, but i haven't had any heartburn this week. also, belching is more than normal, no stomach pain.
are these very typical symptoms of gastritis, especially for food reflux?

thank you

i have seen similar case where certain food triggered a HP-like gastric symptoms. especially when they only recently recovered from the gastric symptoms. People i know tried to avoid those food whenever they can. For your case, you can probably take some ranitidine to ease up the symptoms.

if your recent endoscopy did not show any abnormality, there is no need for another endoscope examination. just continue your rabeprazole for a few more days and see if the problem calms down.

the result of my recent endoscopy was chronic gastritis, and didn't show any abnormality except inflammatory gastric mucosa on antral area of stomach . i will keep taking it for few days, and will let you know the result.

Hello expert, i have taken omeprazole for 17 days till today. i was ok without any symptoms last week for three days. i started to eat a lot of oranges and pumelos everyday for around 4 days because i thought that my symptoms had gone, then symptoms started to come back again, the same symptoms as i had before, they are: Regurgitation of food or liquid or foam(i can burp up some food or liquid after meal, but not every burp) and Sensation of a lump in my throat, always feel something in my throat. my recent upper endoscopy (i have done my recent upper endoscopy in May 2016) results says that the function of cardia is good. Before my recent upper endoscopy examnation, i had similar symptoms like regurgitation of food or liquid. i did some researches on internet showing that my symptoms match to some symptoms of Gastroesophageal reflux disease but my recent upper endoscopy results didn't show this disease.

my concern is that: first why my symptoms haven't calmed down as i have taken omeprazole for 17 days so far, and usually how many days of taking PPI does it take to calm down symptoms?
second, could my symptoms be Gastroesophageal reflux disease
third, does gastritis cause Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or there are some connection between these two diseases
four, do i need to switch omeprazole to Nexium or esomeprazole
five, can stomach cancer develop in one and half years, this is my most concern

thank you expert

you are probably the unfortunate one that takes longer time to heal. from my personal experience, i felt great straight away the treatment. but for my assistant, although he felt immediately better after treatment, he wasnt 100%. He was avoiding certain food as they gave him symptoms (milder than before). After 3 years, he is finally 100%. he is eating everything without concerning that the symptom will come back.

Thank you expert, for my understanding, you suggest me to avoid certain food that may cause symptoms.
also, i have some concerns,
1st. is regurgitation of food or liquid a very common symptom of gastritis or it is the symptom of GERD
2nd. do you recommend me to switch PPI, i'm taking omeprazole now. i want to try esomeprazole, does this work?
3rd. can stomach cancer develop in a short period of time(in two years)

thank you

it really depends on the damage done. if it is the esophageal sphincter that is damaged, then the healing may take a very long time.

esomeprazole, pentoprazole, or rabeprazole are probably better. Because some people has this gene that metabolise omeprazole faster. No data has shown a faster metabolic rate on other PPI yet. anyway, if you feel better after any PPI, then you should continue.

stomach cancer takes a long time to develop. it's can be faster if you have family members also have gastric cancer.

Thank you, I'm not sure if esophageal sphincter has been damaged recently, but what i'm sure is that esophageal sphincter was normal based on my previous upper endoscopy result.

my grandma died from stomach cancer at 78, my parents don't have stomach cancer.

how long do you recommend me to take PPI, up to 3 months?

thank you
