Do PPI's affect test results?

Post by Mrdude1234 » Tue Jan 17, 2017 11:28 pm

Hi, I have recently had an endoscopy with no significant results. I asked my doctor if they tested for H Pylori and he said they didn't because I'm taking omeprazole, and it can result in a false negative.

Is this the case?

he is right. omeprazole may interfere with H. pylori testing. However, if you had not taken any antibiotics within 6 months, he should at least do a blood test to check if have HP antibodies.

In addition, a histology may be helpful too.
