Mastic gum and bismuth subsalicylate

Post by ruinfix » Wed Jul 15, 2015 10:58 am

Is there any scientific research to back up the popular opinion that Mastic gum and bismuth subsalicylate can help cure stomach ulcers? Some even say, H Pylori itself can be beaten into submission.

There is no evidence that suggest mastic gum kill H. pylori in the stomach. However, bismuth has been widely used as one of the "antibiotics" to kill H. pylori. So, if your ulcer is because of H. pylori, then bismuth would most likely work. Then again, by using bismuth itself is not enough to completely eradicate H. pylori. You need to combine bismuth with another one or best with two other antibiotics to effectively eradicate H. pylori.

Mastic gum is a type of rosin, and some of the natural products used as a remedy for H pylori, mastic gum is maybe the best known. Many studies assist the contention that mastic gum has an anti-bacterial action contrary to H pylori. We must always acknowledge that these studies about pylori do not essentially represent exactly what happens in the belly and bowels.
