H Pylori - After Treatment

Post by kiddycat123 »

I completed the Prevpac treatment for H Pylori a month ago, but I'm still having some burning in my throat and esophagus. I'm thinking the treatment didn't work. I will be getting the breath test soon, but it is so frustrating right now. I just want to feel normal again. The treatment and side effects from the treatment made me so sick that I lost my job. I would hate to have to go through the treatment again, but I'll do anything to get rid of this feeling once and for all. I so wish there was an easier way to get rid of it. I don't feel as bad as I did before the treatment, but nevertheless, I still have symptoms. I'm trying to be patient, but I've been sick for three months now and some days I have all I can do to keep going. Between the treatment, doctor appointments, tests and lack of information I received from the doctors, I just want this to end soon. :|

I just realized that this is the website of Dr. Barry Marshall who discovered H Pylori. Does he read our posts at all? My doctor told me how he drank a petri dish of cultured h Pylori. Is there anything new in the area of treatment or anything in the works? If there was one thing I could say to him, it is thank you! I couldn't imagine going through this without having the diagnosis and treatment of these symptoms. We would be suffering every day! Thanks : )

Yes he does, but only when he has some spare time. He is a very busy man. Not only he works in public hospital and see public patients, he also do lectures, attend seminars and involve in H. pylori research. He is currently trying to turn helicobacter pylori into a good bacteria. The experiment is very promising. Probably one day, we will use helicobacter for some good use.

Since I have been done with treatment for 4 weeks, should I see if I can get the breath test done sooner than August? I'm not sure what the appropriate time is.

Several studies have shown that you should wait 28 days after your last tablet - then have the breath test. Sooner than that you might not have sufficient bacteria to show up on the test and you would have a FALSE NEGATIVE result. We don't want that! H.pylori is sometimes a slow growing bacteria. :ugeek:

Hello, which doctor told you you have to wait 8 weeks? That doesn't sound right. Please let me know, I am worried.

This bacteria is mainly associated with stomach problem. Some studies suggest that it also relates to intestinal disease such as Crohn's disease. some studies also suggest that it links with skin disease such as rosacea.

Nevertheless, everyone infected with H. pylori will get some degree of gastritis. some people with have stomach problems, such as gas, bloating, reflux, etc... But, rarely you'll see people with other non-gastric diseases. I personally think that the association with other non-gastric diseases is weak. Then again, due to the long treatment period and even longer when treatment failed, some people may develop anxiety which I think H. pylori indirectly contributed to.
