H. Pylori bismuth quadruple therapy

Post by dan1988 »

Hello,

My father tested positive for H. Pylori and his doctor prescribed the following:

1- Pantoprazole 20 mg BID

2- Bismuth subsalicylate 120 mg QID

3- Metronidazole 250 mg QID

4- Tetracycline 500 mg QID

Are they all taken together after meal? Because I read that Bismuth should be taken on an empty stomach and that it interferes with Tetracycline. So should he take Bismuth before meal and the rest after meal? or all together?

Please help me on what he should do, as he wants to start treatment.

I think there is no simple explanation. We have been prescribing bismuth together with tetracycline after meal as well and it works. many studies have done the same as well. So, I think there is no need to worry about it.

Hi everyone, I am 37 years old . I finished my quadruple therapy on May 23, In August I did the breath test and it is Negative! It is worked! I am very glad, but sometimes I have the heartburn feelings too. I did my test in Canada , no Ppi no antibiotics nothing 3 weeks before the test. But why do I still have the heartburn feeling ? After food, trying to eat healthy , everything basic rise, chicken. Not fry food. It is almost 3 month. My doctor doesn’t say much.

there are many reasons for that. But no matter what is the reason, PPI is the solution, for now. you need to continue PPI to protect your throat being burnt by acid. hopefully, gradually your heartburn will recover.

And also I have very sensitive stomach, what ever I eat and I try to eat bread and rice and no fresh vegetables or fruit I have sift stool. Is it because of antibiotics? If I take probiotics it gets worst. Hiw I can recover from all this treatment 3 month the same story

usually it's the H. pylori that cause the sensitivity. The antibiotics dont stay long in the body. Once you stop the antibiotics, it should be out of your system within a week.

Some people does take a while to recover. My assistant took about 1 year to be 90% normal. He said he used to be very sensitive to spice. But now he can eat almost everything.
