WOULD KETOGENIC DIET HELP THIS CASE

The cure of Hp usually requires antibiotics. Other things have been tried and have a weaker effect.

WOULD KETOGENIC DIET HELP THIS CASE

Post by dralanegale »

I am seeking a comment on the treatment of a patient in my care aged 59 who has persistent infection with H.pylori with culture positive on biopsy specimens from the gastric antrum. Infection has persisted despite two courses of antibiotics referred to as "Nexium 7".

She has come under my care for help in the management of an intractable rash which has responded to a low carb diet.

Is it possible that her former high carbohydrate diet would have predisposed to helicobacter infection and secondly, what are the options to proceed further to eradicate the infection.

Would a "ketogenic diet" literally starve the helicobacter?

Her mother had helicobacter and died of cancer. Her two sisters and daughter both have helicobacter infection.

Is this family reinfecting one another?

She is currently under a prominent gastroenterologist here in South Australia. I have become involved in her management because she was referred to me with her rash.

Hi,

I dont think diet has anything effect on H. pylori. Your body is full of nutrient for H. pylori.

Ideally, your patient will need to do an antibiotic sensitivity test to find out what antibiotics are suitable for the next treatment. Nevertheless, if antibiotic testing is not an option, you can follow one of Prof. Marshall's treatment plans from following link

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1 ... 12089/full
(please scroll down to supportive document)

in her family cancer history, I think it is better they have their H. pylori eradicated.
