PPI CAUTION

The cure of Hp usually requires antibiotics. Other things have been tried and have a weaker effect.

PPI CAUTION

For those of us suffering the post-Helicobacter Pylori damage, read the above article.

From doing a simple 2 week eradication therapy for H. Pylori will mess up your stomachs ability to produce stomach acid at a normal rate for most people for around 7 months.
Some even have irreversible damage done to them as their acid levels didn't change between 3-5 years after treatment.

I was on PPI's for 1.5 months after H. Pylori infection, and I got WORSE. I couldn't eat for up to 3 days at a time. I stopped taking the PPI and after about 5 days I started feeling normal again (by normal, I mean less sick lol).

Just a caution to everyone who are on PPI's.
I was feeling pretty good until one weekend I had probably eaten something that caused my inflammation to cause me a bit of pain for a couple of days, and then my doc prescribed me PPI's... It was good for about a week, then I started getting worse. It got worse in fact due to the PPIs. Most of my symptoms went away 4-5 days after stopping my PPI medication.
(Note: I tried two different types of PPIs because I thought the first one wasn't fixing my issue. Nexium and Pariet [aciphex]).

Turns out being on PPIs can cause symtoms of Functional Dyspepsia and/or delayed gastric emptying, causing early satiety (early fullness) when eating.

Would be interesting if the resident experts could shed some light on this. While it was effective in shutting down acid production, it led to bloating, early satiety, and some nausea in my case.

The stomach acid is like the first line defense of your body to sterilize the food you eat and also denature the food so that it is easier to be absorbed.

So, when you take PPI, you can imaging that your stomach is no longer sterile and many bacteria from the guts and mouth start colonising. So, it is normal for some people to feel a bit different or uneasy when taking PPI.

long term PPI is also linked to B12 deficiency and osteoporosis as apparently the calcium is only absorbed when the stomach is acidic.
