Genes associated with vulnerability to H pylori

Post by mrswoody » Sat Sep 12, 2015 11:32 pm

Hello,

One last question please, are there any genes associated with vulnerability to H. Pylori. Both my parents had H. pylori and stomach cancer. I have consistently tested negative which I think is highly unlikely. There are no other cancers on both sides of my family.

Thank you once again,
Mrs. Woody

Three factors that give rise to gastric cancer.
1. Host genetic makeup.
2. diet
3. H. pylori

If you carry a stomach cancer gene then with or without H. pylori, your risk of gastric cancer is higher than normal. If you have bad diet, eg. high salt, then your gastric cancer risk may increase. If you have H. pylori, it basically speed up the chance of cancer if there is any.

It's normal that you are free of H. pylori. But since your parents have gastric cancer, I think it's reasonable to have annual checkup. Please discuss with your family doctor.

Yes, certain genes may increase an individual's susceptibility to H. Pylori

"susceptibility" to H. pylori, that I am not too sure. We have not seen one type of population that has no H. pylori. Nevertheless, natives in Indonesian and Malaysia are almost free of H. pylori.
