When does blood in stool subside? Should I be concerned?

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

When does blood in stool subside? Should I be concerned?

Post by doddyk96 »

Okay so Ive previously received great info on these forums and posting again because now this is getting me concerned. I'm having blood and excessive mucus in my stool about a week to 10 days after stopping triple therapy. My stool is extremely dark and I can even see red color in the mucus and am fairly certain it is blood. I understand that this is supposed to happen due to the ulcers and I have my endoscopy on the 15th of July. But wanted to ask, is this normal AFTER treatment has stopped and for how long? Otherwise I'm feeling much better - still feel a little sick if I have a big meal or something and definitely not feeling like my old self but much better.

Another thing, throughout this whole issue I've of course had a lot of acid reflux but NEVER any heart burn. I have all the other symptoms of reflux and lately have had a bad nasal drip and sore throat most definitely because of the reflux and so doctor told me start taking oemprazole again once a day which is helping. But I never experience any heartburn while all the other symptoms of acid reflux exist especially feeling like my stomach is really warm. A google search says this might be "silent reflux" - is this normal with H pylori?

Again thank you so so much to this forum. I'm looking forward to hearing back from everyone. Thank you.

what antibiotics did you take? some antibiotics, such as bismuth, can give very dark stool. Nevertheless, the best is to speak to your doctor who can give you a good physical checkup.

I was on the standard Clarythromycin, Amoxicilin and Oemprazole. The lack of replies on this post and your answer are now making me concerned so I guess I will make an appointment asap. But since my last post I've started taking oemprazole again and that seems to have made the color of my stool normal again.

Not many active members on this forum so that explains the lack of replies. As Helico_expert mentioned you can get unusually dark stools while on antibiotics. Mine were very dark brown. If you're certain that it's blood then I'd get it checked out. Nothing to be alarmed about.
