PCR stool Detection of H.pylori

Post by museaddict »

hello,
I will do the PCR stool test for H.Pylori next week but I don't know what's the difference between direct stool test and PCR.
Is there any diffrence ?
I read that direct stool test is not accurate but what about PCR stool Detection and what's the difference between this two tests ?
I also read that PCR stool test can detect the mutation of the h.pylori due to the resistance of Clarithromycin
this is the source https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28515219

PCR is by detecting the presence of H. pylori genes. This is not very accurate because the false positive is very high. Normally I wouldnt believe the PCR result until the piece of DNA is being sequenced.

Stool antigen test is by detecting the presence of H. pylori protein. That's more accurate than detecting the DNA.

The antibiotic resistance detected by PCR, may be accurate up to 80% (no backup data). again, I would look at how the gene is determined as resistant.

I read that Stool antigen test is accurate only for untreated H.pylori but it's not accurate for post-treatment
is that true ?

Not true. Blood test is unreliable after treatment. Stool test is reliable after treatment. But you should wait for at least a month without antibiotics or PPI before stool test.
