Diet During Treatment

The most popular treatments consist of two antibiotics (one of which is usually clarithromycin) plus a strong acid blocker such as omeprazole (PriLosec, Nexium, Somac, Zoton, etc.). Treatment is for 7-10 days. Cure rate is about 85%

Diet During Treatment

Post by rayray84 » Fri Apr 08, 2011 4:47 am

I've been taking 1000mg Amoxicillin twice daily 30min after meals, and 500mg Clarithromycin twice daily 30mins after meal. Along with 40mg omeprazole twice daily. I was feeling somewhat better after first week of treatment. Then I ate some foods that stirred up my acid reflux. It's been 3days and my reflux is just starting to settle back down. Will this effect the effectiveness of my treatment? Also, will eating out impact the effectiveness of my treatment? Or would I just be introducing more Helicobacter Pylori?

If you have any left, increase the Omeprazole to 40 mg three times daily until the end of the antibiotic treatment. Otherwise, there is no evidence that different diets make any difference to treatment. Remember though to stop the omeprazole for one week before the follow-up urea breath test (to check that you are cured).
