Basic research means laboratory science on the underlying mechanisms of Helicobacter. What makes it go? What makes it stop? What does its toxin do to cells? Applied science would be finding new antibiotics which kill it. Making it harmless with a new kind of food. Stopping it from spreading to other people.

Epidemiology and Transmission ( How do you catch it?)
How do you catch Hp? From your mother when she kisses you? From brothers and sisters as a small child? From sexual partners as adults (kissing)? From dirty water (fecal contamination)? From animals? Who knows???

Vaccines Parenteral and Oral
For at least 18 years vaccine research has shown promise in that mice can be vaccinated against H.pylori. Presently, human trials are under-way. We expect to see some progress by 2012. Vaccine delivery includes nasal drops, oral medicine, needles and live bacteria. There is some evidence that these vaccines can prevent and protect, but not cure.
